G'day,
Does anyone have a cool way of performing a colour change between two sponge balls? Currently, I use either a tt combined with a classic palm or a modified Spellbound move. Can anyone help with a more natural flowing colour change with sponge balls??? |

Look into an item called a Sanada gimmick.
You can do other tricks with it, and sponge balls too, like productions and vanishes and other changes. |

I'm right-handed, but here's what I do:
Find a reason to go in your pocket and retrieve the new color ball. Hold the original ball in the left hand between your thumb and fingertips (which are pointing up - you're showing the backs of your fingers). With the new color ball finger palmed, bring it up and 'wave' that hand in front of the left while switching out the two balls using the right-hand thumb. Hope that helps. |

Check out dean dill's "gimmick" with the spongeball. no fair spilling the beans here but what he uses in his intimate miracles book along with some proper blocking will serve you nicely.
very magical.

Please remember that this is an open forum. We can't discuss sleights, gimmicks or secrets in any detail in this section of the Café. When you have 50 posts, you can get into the banquet room, which is where these things are discussed fairly openly. We can PM you with information, though. The Sanada gimmick is limited in its capacity. Jay Scott Berry has a related gimmick that is exactly what you probably need.

I agree, the Jay Scott Berry gimmick works great for this effect!

Do you mean the "FS2" by Jay Scott Berry?
Here a link to what I'm talking about. http://madhattermagicshop.com/magicshop/......_id=1257 |

Anyone have a video of what this effect looks like?

YEs I would like to see a video of this change. They say with a WAVE OF THE HAND.
But I wonder if it is more like you see the ball be pushed into the hand and then the hand waves over it and it changes. I think that is two different looks. A wave of the and would mean you display the red ball, way the other hand in front of it and the ball is now yellow. OR Show a red ball. Wave the hand up and down and it is now yellow. Are either what the effect looks like? |

I'm doing a color change in my routine that is not a color change in itself: I'm starting a continuous ball production: a ball appears in the right hand as one is pocketed; now as the magically produced one is passed to the other hand, the one coming from the pocket is secretly transferred into the producing hand. Thus with pocket management you can change the color of the balls without doing a color change.
If you want to do a color change then do just what is described above and, instead of pocketing the ball after it has been transfered to the other hand, do a classic billiard ball color change or a Spellbound (thumb palming the visible sponge ball and leaving the finger palmed one in its place). You could also simply do a Shuttle Pass with two balls of different colors: then just cause the magic before letting the odd color appear. From there you can pocket the ball in the new color, produce one in the original color, pocket it, produce one in the second color (stealing another one of the second color from the pocket) and keeping doing the production with the second color... I would simply suggest at some point to do a Palm Over Change for the audience not to suspect (which they always soon do in continuous productions) that you have only two balls: by doing it you demonstrate that you only have one.

I haven't seen the FS2 but I have Jay demonstrate his Eclipse Tip a few times using sponge balls. When I saw him demonstrate it I thought this is what real magic would look like. He has a DVD called "Total Eclipse" where he explains it. I didn't see it available on his website but did see it listed at Hocus Pocus.

If you are using a TT (Jay Scott Berry's Eclipse or regular), check the DVDs of Troy Hooser. Troy has a unique open way of putting a sponge ball into the TT that is totally different from Roger Klause/John Carney. It is IMHO far superior (when it comes to sponge balls) to any other TT load. Now I think that the Sanada gimmick often supplies a more casual handling than a TT which requires some specific moves. Jay's FS2 is an adaptation of the Sanada gimmick which is ideal for use in sponge balls color changes.

A Sanada, FS2 or cloaking device (the latter two are modifications of the Sanada by Jay Scott Barry) will all work. With practice, it does look like you just wave your hand over the ball and it changes. I would probably get the FS2 with the instructional DVD.
I can even do this change and I'm purely an amateur.

I read on another forum that a performer named Bizarro is working on a very visual color changing sponge ball. Supposed to be coming out soon I think.

Get the French Connexion DVD. On it is a sponge ball color change under the Extra Tips and Ideas section in the bonus part of the DVD! It uses simple slight of hand and has always worked well.

WW, nice but you and elliot here really might want to check out Bizzaro's take on this, it's quite a bit smoother and more instantly magical. I absolutely love the sleight-of-hand stuff but this seems like true progress as to a spongeball change.
