I'm currently using the M. Ammar Mercury Wand as well, however, a bit later on I'll be using the Mikame wand that I got with this:
http://www.funtymemagic.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1031 I also have a heavy wood wand with Brass tips, an "El Cheapo" black plastic wand with silver tips that I use sometimes during kid's shows, and a "Break-A-Way wand" that I use for a quick laugh. S.R.

I have, so far, used a bamboo wand, but next time I work the routine will be using the Tiger Wand from Porper. I've had all kinds through the years, including one with 32-cal. shells for the ends (made by Tabman). Charlie Miller liked the white carboard coat hangar bit.
The Carl Williams wand with Vernon's head cast in silver is one I'd love to get. Porper has just made a very few limited edition wands with Dai Vernon picure laser engraved on the ends. This is a killer item for sure.

I have many different wands.
I spent a lot on them. The one I prefer and use is the Street wand from Frank Starsini: it goes very well with my Sherwoods, it is very well balanced for the Mora spin and it has a very warm feeling. I would reccommend that without reserves. |

I used a sawed off drumstick with electrical tape on both ends, giving it black tips and helping against shattering.
I'd like a Frank S. Street Wand, but it's too expensive for something I handle so gruffly. |

In addition to the standard-type wands, I use vintage conductor batons of ebony with silver ends. Started to collect these when I visited London last Summer. Most of the batons are presentation pieces, inscribed and hallmarked. Most of the batons I have are from the early 20th century. Not ideal as wands because not balanced in the same way but because they're unusual and interesting conversation pieces, good for misdirection.
To all you guys on the Gulf Coast, keep a close eye on Gustav. Looks like this is going to be bad one. Take good care and good luck. Fortasse |

I've just got a couple of wands from the people at Tabman Tables. The first one I got to go with the Tyltable I got from them--it's 14" walnut with brass ends. I liked it so much I ordered a 14" walnut wand with copper ends, for when I want to use my copper cups. It arrived a few days ago and it's great--the ends are a bit heavier than the brass ends and the wand is just that much heavier which helps with spinning etc. These wands are great value and they complement the table and the props beautifully. Highly recommended.

Right now I use a wand that I made myself. It's a timbale stick spray painted black, leaving the tips unpainted, it looks like this - http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4366/dscn1419us3.jpg .
But it is a little to long for me (15") and the paint is starting to scratch, so I just recently ordered a Bill Palmer Style wand from Tabman Tables. Ray is going to make it 14" for me, and it will have brass inserts in the ends for extra weight and strength. I really can't wait for this wand.

I decided to try my hand at making a wand. It was actully quite enjoyable.
Ingredients: 36" x 3/8" aluminum rod, hacksaw, sandpaper, steel wool, metal polish, heat shrink tubing and the all important elbow grease! |

I get this kind of drumstick and sand the words off.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/R......u=490369 You can also wrap them in tape or paint them. I like natural wood though. I had a couple painted ones. It's fun to paint them with glowing paint and use a blacklight.

My favorite is one made for me by Café member, Curt Frye. It is a hickory timballe stick wrapped in black electrical tape ala Gazzo specs.
(Thanks Curt!!)

You're welcome, Mike. You can smooth out any bumps in the tape by banging the wand on the heads of spectators who give you grief.
