COOL!

How do you have the white one fastened in there?
Is it a round or a heart?

Mark,

Mainly seen pirate hats made out of black balloons for the hat shape...that's how I do mine...any thoughts on this? I am not very good at being creative with primarily "boy" balloons...so I'm wondering why you use brown?

Thanks for any opinions,

Alexa

I really don't know other than I always think of Pirate hats as being dirty leather. Hence, brown.

Black feels like a default color ... and people seem intrigued by brown balloons. I always get:
"They make brown balloons?"

I also throw in a red balloon too sometimes, making it look like a head scarf under the hat.

Will do, Mark. I think it'll be worth it. Now when it comes to balloons, I'm still pretty much a novice. (Although, I do have these Biker Balloon DVDs that are pretty good....)

Mark,

I will have to get that DVD with the pirate hat on it.
I just gave all my availanle money to mikethemagicdude buying DVD'd off him.
I will learn both the Dewey and this one.
I picked up the Wild Balloon Hats and really like the pirate hat there.
I agree with Rob that it is more elaborate.
But I do like both.
I have a Gospel idea I am going to do with this pirate hat.
How can you make a telesope, I saw one with an eyball on the end somewhere.
Where can I laern that?

Mike,

I'm not Mark, but I can answer your question. The telescope, Dewey's Pirate Hat and a really cool parrot which I use all the time is in issue 32 of Balloon Magic magazine. You may be able to get a back issue from Tmyers, or the Qualatex website.

I am not Steve ....but he is right!!

I am not famous enough to make the cover of Balloon Magic.

But I did buy an ad on The Magic Café. Can you find it?

Mark,

I found it right away. It was easy to find. It is right between the "Cons, Swindles and Scams" section and the "Carnival of Fun" Section. It is only a matter of time until Qualatex calls you for a "Spotlight" article in Balloon Magic. You certainly deserve it.

Is there a DVD that explains how to make the Ralph Dewey pirate hat?

Here is my rendition of the Dewy style hat, after buying the book.

Yes, I don't have the colors exact, but you get the idea...

I borrowed from Mark's earing on his hat (which I make also) and I
don't use the thinner balloons as described by Dewy...

I like Mark's better, but what do you think?

Seems like a lot of work .... I think mine is easier to create, but I might be bias. Mine is 4 balloons total and a lot less twisting. 2-260s, one heart, round or 321 & one 160.

Color is really important to customers if the colors are right the figure gets more credibility.

Use a thicker marker, I like Expo click for white boards. Great thick line.

Thanks Mark for you input...

Honestly, I have your DVD and I think yours is much more elegant and faster
to make. I have to master those bends a little more for mines to look as
good as yours....though the one on your DVD doesn't mount the skull head
like the pic you have posted here...can you help me on that?

I was discouraged at first in seeing Dewy's because of the amount of work.
When you have 15 kids plus waiting, you simply don't have time for something that complex. So I reserve this one for that special person, and I have done it so many times...

It requires 3 260s and a Bbody and whole lot of ear twists. Though in the image
the other half of the cross bones popped so I had to use another balloon. The
differences in this image to the actual Dewy was influence by the one on your
DVD.

Thanks for the tips on the color usage and the marker usage...I generally use
a black sharpie...though in this image...I think I used what was in grasps at
the time...

Can't wait for more of your DVDs...

I use several methods of mounting the balloon. If using a heart split in half or a 321 apple twisted and cleaved you can simply mount it at the apex of the inner loop of the headband.

I also use a pressure fit with imprints, hearts and 321s.... similiar to the one eyed monster hat in my DVD.

There is a glitch in the sequence of the pirate teach in, till now nobody has ever noticed before!!!
