I have laughed until I cried at the humour and style of mentalist John Archer. If you want to see a truly natural comedian, get the "Educating Archer" DVD. It's inspirational for those of you who want to watch & learn about flawless rapport with your audiences. His body language & facial expressions are 100% spot on.

Actually, if he was also into magic rather than mentalism, he would be the perfect guy to perform the multiplying bottles.

I second that statement!

I saw him at the Magic Castle & he wasn't funny at all. Maybe he was having an off night? I was embarassed that I'd brought a friend in to see him...

That was a great clip of John, he's very funny. My biggest regret of last year was missing him at Mindvention last fall. He is truly funny, and I'm not a big fan of British comedy, but with John it is not British comedy it just good old laugh out loud fun and humor.

That clip was great. Maybe the night Jerskin saw him he had an audience full of magicians...

Not wanting to jump to my own defense, I don't feel I have to.... but my act does rely a lot on how things click with the audience and spectators. I had a great week at the castle but a few of the performances never got off the ground as well as others so maybe Jerskin was at one of those?
I still get bad gigs, thankfully not as many as I did 15 years ago, but I still get them.
It's also possible that some people don't find me funny.... (hard to believe I know ;-) I can live with that. The truth is that we all have a different sense of humour and I know that some will just not like what I do or the way I do it. That is a reality for all of us.

British Comedy.... what is that? Smile

I definitely saw a show with a dud audience. Believe me, I drove an hour & waited in line just to see you. I wanted you to kill!

Everybody has bad shows occasionally and if they say they don't then they are lying. The "law of averages" as Steve Martin discussed in his recent bio.

Whether Archer is always funny or not (a very subjective measure), Educating Archer shares some excellent tricks done in a novel and funny (to me) way. I guess the point is that even if you don't entirely delight in his type of comedy, you can appreciciate the cleverness of the tricks he teaches and his artistry. Check it out; it is one of the best DVDs I have in that it is fun to watch, and you learn something from it.

I think the Educating Archer DVD shows a very ingenious and comedic performer sharing some great ideas. Thanks for sharing John....and it's nice to know I'm not the only guy who has an occasional off night with an audience.

Being a big fan of comedy mentalism (whooo - light blue touch-paper...) I have to say that I agree with most about John. I laughed out loud too at Educating Archer though his teaching style leaves a lot to be desired! (But then, as was quickly pointed out, he is a comedian not a teacher!)

I have to say, its a close call between John and Mel Mellers. I have learned so much from both of them to help with my act!

I also saw the clip from the Magic Castle - it gave me such a good laugh and I found it so funny!

His performance is "Archini-Style" and I like it alot! Can't forget his face when he heard that the guy from the audience smashed the glass with the key!

By the way, was this a different presentation of "7 Keys to Baldpate"? I guess so ... what was the outline?

Educating Archer is my no. 1 DVD and I watched it over and over again. My show has a lot of elements from John's technics and his thinking behind every trick goes into great detail. He always tries to perform it the way it seems logic to the audience.

When I visited John's "YouTube" Channel I found also all the different episodes of "Underground Magic" from Sky One.

I found some things funny but overall I did expect more!
John did most of the time a real good job but the victims didn't give such a good response. That is my own personal opinion. What do you guys think about it?

JOHN: Your new website looks much better but I missed some tour dates. Is there a kind of public tour in the near future?

Cheers & All The Best,
Jarod
