Here's an idea... how about perform the floating rose (keeping the ring in your pocket) without hinting at the proposal... just giving her a rose as a sweet gesture. After handing her the rose, get down on one knee and just take the ring out of your pocket and propose. Like I said above, the proposal will be more magical to her than any magic trick.

My wife loves magic too. She meets me at the door, and whenever she sees me, begging me to make myself disappear.

My wife competes with me to see who can do more magic. I produce dollar bills and she makes them disappear!

Magic or Genii had a ring production five or six years ago where you f****r p**med the ring while having a TT on the other hand. You inserted the TT into the fist over the ring and placed a piece of metal (I believe they used a coin) and a lump of coal (chip of carcoal) into the TT. The TT was stolen away and the ring revealed. I don't recal who submitted the effect.

He had four million in stock, far cry from hard cash as any dot com'r or techie can tell you. He bought a truck with his $20k. He is very happy because like many of us we realize money isn't the door to happiness. He got rid of his wife (a lovely woman by the way, I'd love to tag her), started working out and learned martial arts and is a lil' stud now, and he has a girlfriend who treats him like a king. The final key to his happiness was his getting a job with a company that isn't firing hundreds of Americans and sending the jobs to China as this other company did, the one who fell to crap. I just checked the stock price for his old company and it is around $10 a share so if he stuck with the old wife he'd be worth 80 grand in paper, that is if he didn't lose all his options like I did (my loss in the last two years around half a million....in options).

Well personally I did the same thing and proposed with a magic trick. For me asking my now wife to look at a new trick was something she does regularly and she didn't expect me to propose and it was one of the best things I ever did. I performed a cups and balls routine and at the end of loading different balls under the cups I then loaded the wedding ring box under the last cup, proposed and the rest is history.
My point is that when you propose you want it to be something that she wont expect. Asking her to look at a new trick is something I ask her to do all the time and she thinks nothing of it and she especially didn't think I was going to propose. And believe me when people hear that I proposed using a magic trick they think it is one of the best ideas they have ever heard and they always ask how I did it so it makes a good conversation piece as well. So don't dismiss it as an option all together. It has worked well for me and if it is something you want to do then just do it. Good luck with however you decide to do it. |

I promise you that there is at least one guy out there, likely more, that shoved a ring up a gooses arse and left it to be found by a woman while she gutted it in his special way of proposing so the fact people have proposed using magic isn't at all surprising. I don't suggest the goose method nor the magic method....I'm an old fashion fellow.

Many funny ideas!!
Here a serious one: Put the ring in an icecube (for cooling drinks) and go in a restaurant where you know the waiter. Give him the ice-cube secretly one hour before. You two go to this restaurant/coffeeshop, sit down, you order two of her favorite drinks and your waiter-friend give it to you, but it is not cold enough (because he take the coke or whatever not from the refrigerator) -> now you order ice-cubes. In each glass one. Then you tell her to show the most impressive magic trick of her life. she should take HER hankerchief and put it over her glass (if she wants to drink during the next minutes she should take your glass). You see in your glass, whe the icecube was transformed to water. Then you start to speak about your future and you ask her to put away the handkerchief. Good luck! |

Hi there,
Thanks a lot for all the advices and the addressed topics. Finally I did it the non magical way. It was rather a guessing game during a breakfast in bed that I prepared for us putting pastries, fruits, a rose and... the ring under different cups. SOme of you may see that as a cups&ring (&fruits...) routine (:-)) but only the atmosphere was magic, especially when she answered: YES! Done! |

On a related note:
A friend of mine did "color monte" with regular playing cards for a girl he was trying to date. So the story was about a "guy trying to get this girl's phone number." The kicker at the end was a playing card with her phone number on it (he was able to secretly get her number ahead of time). They ended up getting married. |

CONGRATULATIONS on your proposal. I know this is too late, but I just recently proposed too & had a difficult time deciding whether to incorporate magic or not. Let me tell you, I am super glad I used magic. She still gushes over this every time she shares how she was proposed to.
I took her to the Magic Castle for shows & dinner. During dinner, I folded an origami ring from flash paper, put it on her finger for fun, & then started levitating it. After some oohs & ahhs, I burned the origami ring and in its place was her engagement ring! She was in shock. Then, I got down on one knee. And she said, "No." Just kidding. The tables around us cheered & applauded. Gotta tell you, though--that was the most EXPENSIVE magic trick I've performed! |

I was going to suggest the napkin over the head trick and 20th Century Panties, so it's a good thing I came to this thread late. |

I say fold a paper rose out of flash paper, but have the ring behind it. When it ignites, it will leave you holding the ring in your finger tips.
