Anyone here know of software that I can get? I have a few CDs that I'd like to shorten and just take what I like from the CDs.

Sound Forge. You can edit, fade out, alter, add effects, etc. Then, burn a new CD.

You can downloaded from their site or get the CD. Just Google "Sound Forge".

Try Audacity. It's free and available for Mac, PC, Linux, etc.

Are these two the same things, or are both different?

Sound Forge is a professional music editing program.
I do not know anything about Audacity. But for free, it is worth a try. It might be good enough for what you need.

Audacity is pretty simple and is very effective for basic editing. I haven't found the need for anything more elaborate for myself. (I don't do anything that complicated.)

One of my favorite features is the "Amplify" option. I have some royalty free music that was recorded at low levels, and I can amplify them cleanly and quickly with Audacity.

I can easily find the Audacity website, but for Sound Forge, the things I've found for it is by Sony and, apparently, it's not FREE.

That is correct. Sound Forge is commercial software.

So is Sound Forge worth investing the money into?

As I posted, Sound Forge is a professional music editing program.
I asked around about Audacity, and it should be okay for what you need.
And like I said, it is free, so what can you loose?

If you need or want all the bells and whistles, YES.

Nucinud, what version of Sound Forge do you have, and where did you get yours from?

Sound Forge 9. We upgraded to the latest version.
Started using version 6 many years ago before Sony bought them. Had 7 for the longest time. Jumped to 9.
We also have Pro Tools, Fruity Loops and tons of other recording software products. And, a recording studio in the basement. My son, who is a magician also, is a recording engineer. He says Sound Forge or Adobe Audition is the way to go for CD editing. There used to be a trail version of Sound Forge you could download. It is not full version, and you can't save projects, but you can see if you like it.

Sound Forge Audio Studio might work for you also, and it is much cheaper.
Did not realize Sound Forge was so expensive now. We have just been upgrading, which has been less expensive.

Nucinud, if you can PM me, I'd love to learn about the different types of software that there is. I might even try Audacity. Don't mind my short posts right now, I'm trying to figure out what to do for a show at the end of this month.

Don,

You really should try Audacity first. If it does what you need, you'll be in good shape. If it doesn't, then you won't be out any money.

If Audacity doesn't have the features you want, it will help you decide what you need in a commercial software. Like anything else, using something that doesn't meet your needs wills sharpen your knowledge of what you want.

Michael, I'm not sure what Audacity does when it downloads. Like how much memory does it take up? What I'm looking for is to copy or get only the parts of a song on a CD that I want and put them on my own CD. I have too many people looking at what music that I'm using. Either one of you two can pm me if you like. I need to learn what everything does.
