Don't feel guilty.
Always keep eye contact with the spectator. Don't feel guilty. Use natural movements. Construct patter to go with the moves...I hope that made sense. Use natural movements. Don't feel guilty. And what everyone else said.... lol Tim

Things to not:
Give them reason to doubt you. Tell them what they can plainly see. Get them looking in places where you would not want them looking a few tricks later. Treat your coins as fragile items which which would sound funny if you dropped them. Look at your collector coins as if they were pocket change. Act hesitant when others want to see (handle) your coins because they might not have seen old silver dollars, etc., before. *
...to all the coins I've dropped here

IMO, subtleties should not be used as vanishes, and I have seen a lot of that in the past several years.

That would be a proper use of a subtle display. However, I have seen magicians use such a display as a vanish from the same hand. This is probably more just a matter of opinion on a convincing vanish than something that coin workers shouldn't do, but it came to mind when I saw the post. |

10 THINGS A COIN WORKER SHOULD NOT DO:
1. Sell your Catapult! DVD. 2. Repeat the same sleight 3 times in a row (see almost any coins across) 3. Repackage the same effects on countless complilation DVDs (see jay sankey coin magic) 4. Confuse David Roth with David Lee Roth. 5. Emulate Michael Rubinstein's presentation style. 6. Take a bite out of coin. 7. Attempt to utilize a thumb tip. 8. Begin a CSB routine by explaining that you just got back from China. 9. Discount the value of Dime & Penny gimmick. 10.Attempt to make a gimmick where one side of the coin 'matches' the color and texture of your palm.

Here's one not meaning to start flames.... but
Don't do a one coin routine. I've seen this performed many times by many people over the years, and very few really make it look magical. |

1. Don't be too lazy to clean your coins.
2. Don't say nothing if a coin is accidentally dropped. 3. Don't sell another person's routine. 4. Don't perform unless your act is ready to perform. 5. Don't show someone else routine on You Tube with out crediting them. 6. Don't ever turn your back on The La Famiglia Family. 7. Don't listen to Dynamike's advise unless it has been approved by Eric Jones. LOL |

Good advice in this thread.
My two cents: don't use clean new copper coins. Make them darker so the spectators can clearly distinguish them from silver coins. |

1. Don't draw attention to the sleight and pause, waiting for applause because you performed it so well. The audience can transfer a coin from one hand to the other, too.
2. Don't forget that everyone's hands are different. You don't have to keep the coin classic palmed in the exact same spot as David Roth. 3. Don't try to keep all fingers parallel and the hand perfectly flat when classic palming. We're supposed to have opposable thumbs, remember? 4. Don't keep the coin in deep back clip for too long, or you get cramps. 5. Don't give up on the crimp change, it will work (they say). 6. Don't do cards, unless there're coins falling out of them. 7. Don't pause anywhere in a multiphase routine, just go, go, go!! 8. Disregard the comments you get when you put a video up on MVD because you know best, obviously. 9. Don't use sleeving because it's old school. 10. Don't ask for new, good tricks because Bobo's is so outdated. |
