What exactly is the effect ?
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Very cool effect. I like the delay as it passes through.

Effect looks beautiful.
Angles are terrible. Good for a one on one situation. More collectable than practical. |

Courses for horses and all that... Julie |

Julie, I've performed it to myself by dropping the steel ball while I watched from the spectator's vantage point and the angles are very limited. Yes, you could manage your audience to fit within the narrow acceptable range. You could also use some sort of cover to improve matters. That doesn't change the fact that the angles are poor.
I prefer such items to be suitable for performing at a dinner table -- without asking everyone to shift down to the foot of the table first. If you have any creative solutions to the angle issue, I would be interested to read them. |

Hi Rob
If you're going to perform "magic" in a prearranged environment obviously YOU are in control of variables. I know it's a challenge to not project your angle concerns into your performance. (Running when not being chased etc.) I agree the apparatus was most likely not intended by the inventor to be demonstrated at a round dinner table. My suggestion is for you to set-up the apparatus before your spectators arrive and then sit at the sharpest angles and see if you can indeed see something you shouldn't. If in your opinion the angle is revealing, the appropriate action is for you to simply choose not to perform this trick at this time. No, covering the props is not advisable IMO; the effect is too strong to be diluted in this manner. Of course, with careful blocking you may neutralize any line of sight problem from one side. Perhaps your significant other or a close-up case, menu or other prop might be brought into play to cover the other side. At any rate, this is too powerful a performance piece to be regulated to the dreaded "drawer". All the best Julie |

Here's another idea...
Suppose you have an audience participant drop the ball in the top while your hands are positioned one on either side to send "the power" through the tubes while in reality you are concealing the "dirty work" from the world? I'm going to try this. Sometimes I even amaze myself! Julie |

Soooooo then, robvh's comments, though brief, were pretty spot on.

I also have this effect and love watching it myself, I recently had a woodworker make me a distressed looking box to store the parts in and it sits on my shelf waiting for someone to ask what is that? I prefer to perform it for one or two people at a time and then combine it with other penetration effects such as Viking/Brema ball thru hand and the Buoyant Ball Bearing.

Great idea combining this with ball thru hand... first demonstrate the ability to penetrate soft flesh... then glass. Thanks

SEO Magic has a few U-235's in stock. They are built by Collectors/Viking with permission from Owens. I bought one for my grand daughter for this Christmas. Very beautiful craftsmanship. Everything is included and as stated in this thread it is very nicely packaged.
I am not a big fan of letting the audience examine props with one effect and not with the next effect. The disruption in continuity is obvious. I never insist for props to be examined. |

I just saw this available on Hocus Pocus Magic and this is an early Christmas present from my wife. I have to admit I have no idea how this works! I've always been amazed when I've seen videos of this in the past. Definitely looking forward to this one!
Good magic to all, Eric |

After watching numerous videos on this I believe I may finally know the principal used here on how this is accomplished. If I am correct I will probably be going to my hardware store and try to have something duplicated. But I have to admit I am very much looking forward to this it should be here tomorrow.
Good magic to all, Eric |

Hi Eric,
If what I think you think is what I think, I think you might want to contact George Robinson who already picked up this thought from other purchasers who thought the same thing prompting George to have the thought of item produced as an add on; so you might want to contact him. What do you think...? Julie |
