I have started working on an anti-bully show for elementary schools. I have seen lots of magicians present a similar program but no vents.

My first question is "Is the whole Bully thing overdone like anti-drug shows were?"

I am seeing that uin the United States at least, some states are requiring it to be part of the curriculum.

Has anyone done such programs?

I have not done one since the beginning of the last school year. My program was vent heavy, but also used magic and comedy props. The school district wanted it as a kick off to the program they would be using all year. S.T.O.P was the name of this particular.

Only one response? I know there are a bunch of vents out there doing this kind of show. Must be keeping all the good info to themselves

I know there is a lot of research for me to do to put this together.

I sent you a pm with some ideas I have used in the past.

I have used the Bullies to Buddie ideas, in my work with students (individual and groups) more than in assembly work.

Although this was a BIG topic at my son's school about two years ago, this year seems to be about "character" (last year was "responsibility").I know the school still enforces a very serious No Tolerance policy regarding bullying, but the focus this year seems to be getting away from that as the main topic. They seem to switch their focus in our school system every year. It may be different in your neck of the woods. Talk to some teachers and guidance counselors in the area you will be working to see what the focus is this year. Can't do better than to go to the source !

I just got an order for 2 cable vent masks with no nose from a friend here in the Café...he intends to use it for an Anti-bullying routine by September.


BTW, these are the last two pieces we have for masks with no nose...the first set were sent out a few months ago including one for our pal Doug Arden

I am geeting a lot of feedback and seeing a lot of others are doing a Character Show, where bullying is one of the topics covered. May have to do some rethinking.

Character Ed is big in our district as well. (R-7 Missouri)

Mr. Ed was a great show written by a magician/comedy writer who also had a column in the Linking Ring (60's) and his name was _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

Another resource could be Steve Taylor. His Fantastic Friends video is one of his many shows, plus there are other books and products he sells. For his show customers, he has a few shows around character / bullying / choosing friends, if I remember correctly.

I am sending out a flyer to preschools in my area with my new show "Be a Buddy - Not a Bully" as well as mentioning some others I do.

100 preschools in a 3-4 city area and we will see if any response.

A mailing list company is offering me 100 leads to try them out.
