I'm Julianna and I love magic among other things. I'm a H.S. student. My Uncle got me interested in magic because he was always showing me and my friends tricks and stuff but wouldn't show us how to do them. I hated him for that LOL!!! He said if I got serious about it he would help me, sssoooo, I'm serious! He pointed me to this website and gave me my first magic book to learn from.

Welcome! Don't hesitate to ask questions. There are NO dumb questions. Just remember-performing magic is not about puzzles, it's about entertainment. I highly recommend reading "Maximum Entertainment" along with the standard books on magic techniques.

Welcome, Julianna, my uncle played a big part too in my interest in magic (actually two uncles, Harry and Pete) I've been at it over 50 years now and the bug is still with me. Glad to have you in the Café.

Welcome Julianna. I'm still relatively new to magic myself. This website has been a great resource for me, and I'm sure you'll find it helpful too. Out of curiosity, which book did your uncle pass your way?
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

Welcome Julianna to the Café. This is a great place where magicians really can help other magicians. I hope you will enjoy it here and get a lot out of it. It has helped me a great deal and I have met some really great people in the process. If I can be of any help to you at all, please just simply let me know. Enjoy and welcome. My wife is an intrical part of our magic and acts we do and also a magician in her own right.

Maximum Entertainment can be obtained at many magic dealers or you might try H&R Books in Houston, a magic book dealer. http://www.magicbookshop.com/index.php

Guess I don't need to tell you where to find it. But you can buy it cheaper at Amazon.com.
If you REALLY want to take your performance to a new level, read "Foundations" available at Stevens Magic Emporium website. BOTH of those books will go a long way towards getting your head into the "zone" for entertaining magical art, instead of just tricks to fool your friends. Best wk

RRCM is good. I own a copy but I am not starting it until I spend more time on Tarbell:) My first 'real' magic book was Bill Tarrs "Now you see it, now you don't." And that book got me turned onto Bobo's "Modern Coin Magic." Which has been my bible for 2 years.
I finally was able to afford the Tarbell set and am currently immersed deeply in it.

No worries. You can't go wrong with "Maximum Enertainment". I underlined several passages on just about every page of the book. It's solid information that will arm you with the knowledge of entertaining and becoming memorable to audiences, as opposed to doing tricks and nobody remembers who you were.
Best
