Unless I know who you are, I will no longer respond to anonymous persons who only use a made up user name. You know, something like "Iammagic" or "magicguy" or "backpalmer", etc.

You know who I am so how come I don't know who you are?

Know what I'm sayin???

Hm. What if we don't wanna talk to those who post generic Wabbits rather than their own mugshots? Smile

It's not up to me...they took away my "privilege". I can't put one up if I tried.

Yeah, what's the point of this post?

Frankly, I have a couple of other businesses and write a lot for the web. If you Google my real name you'll get tons of hits. I'd rather not have my random posts on The Magic Café show up and get mixed in with all my professional writing. When The Magic Café finds a way to opt out of Google searches, maybe I'll post with my real name.

That's a relief ... now we don't have to start a thread for everyone but Mr. Bicycle.

I agree with this sentiment, I'm not too keen on talking to "Cyber Sock Puppets" either, but I'm not going to make it a hard and fast rule...

I've actually thought about changing my screen name. From my REAL name, to a very cool named that was mentioned on my favorite youtube video, Roberto Giogababanini. That definately has a cool ring to it.

Whilst I have some sympathy for the sentiment, and certainly in scenarios where we have anonymous posters who just seem full of venom, there are some significant factors you need to think about when you use t'internet.

1) If you make a habit of logging on with your real name all over the place then the unscrupulous could pretty much draw up a profile on you.

2) Whats the status of some of the lesser known web sites you log onto with your real name, and do you use a password that's say the same as your online banking password.

3) By reviewing the posts you make in your real name could somebody get enough details on you to pass basic security on a financial web site ?

This may all sound a bit paranoid but I guarantee that its not hard to build a picture on somebody who is a bit free with their personal details.

Having said all that, whilst I don't have my real name up on here, I do think its fair to have links in my profile (e.g. website address) that gives a little more detail on who I am.

Sounds arrogant and elitist to me.
With all due respect Mr. Justin Style, your post makes you sound like you are too good or important to talk to just anyone.
Maybe you don't want to communicate with just plain ordinary unimportant souls like myself? Sorry your Royal Highness.
Did it ever occur to you that some people will have a made up username or avatar for professional reasons or just for fun? Not everyone who uses an alias is hiding, some are just having a good time.
In a way I kind of feel sorry for you and your inflated ego.
