Oh hey Don! Yeah it seems there wasn't much time to meet anyone with that crazy schedule! LOL! In fact, I didn't meet several Café people until after the last event on the last day of Kidabra!
Next year, we should all plan to meet somewhere specific at a specified time to network and maybe take a group photo! Lyndel |

That's an excellent idea! A Café Lunch! Add that to our after-conference report!

Sip and gang,
We actually did that as part of the IBM/SAM Combined convention and it worked out really well. So much so that everyone wants to do it again. We used the stickers I created so that people could add them to their badges at registration time. Then we set up a time to meet for food and chat and such. This was posted on the registration board so people knew and we also had people telling other Café members. It was such a great way to meet Café friends face to face. I hope it works out well. Kyle

Donald,
Same Week, August 12-15th, with Biz Builders on the 11th and 12th. I already reserved my room for next year, right across the hall from Mark Daniel. Dennis

Hi Dennis -
Thanks for the information. So, do quite a few register early for the conference, as well as their accomodations? I'm thinking of taking care of it in September or October. Did I read somewhere that the first 50 registrations get preferred seating? - Donald

Yes, the fist 50 get preferred seating, on the first three rows. I believe the first row is already gone.
The Music Road Hotel fills up first, then the Music Road Inn across the street. The Standard room is either a King Size bed, or Two Queen Size Beds. A roll-away is $10 extra, so you can get three in a room and split the cost. As for availability, each year is different. Some years the Hotel fills first. What happens is two conference cross and that fills the place. This year we had a Homicidal Detective Conference (Mon-Wed) and KIDabra Conference Tue-Sat, so late registers, may had difficulty in getting a room. There were quite a few mix-ups by the hotel this year because of change in management and change in computer software. I am registered for Next year, and turned down the preferred seating because I work the conference. To ensure I got a room where I wanted, (1st floor) I locked in that room. (A note on the bottom of the confirmation letter stating they are not to change rooms for me.) I am hoping my wife and son go with me to this 2009 KIDabra Conference.

A couple things. Is this conference held in the same town every year? Does one have to join KIDabara in order to attend? I know there is no club where I live or w/in a couple hundred miles at best, likely more.
Lastly I'm kind of taken back by some of you surprised that Jolly Roger is a nice person. From all account and seeing him on other forums he seems like a very nice guy with a long background in performance and always seems helpful. I've had PM exchanges with people who for some reason thought I was Jolly Roger (I've been accused of being other English people as well, not to bad since there is nothing English about me) and they told me his greatest sin was over exuberance about a product. Heck, there are guys here that ALL they do is pump up their goods but they seem to get away with it. I wasn't here when Jolly Roger was and I hope he can make some agreement with the wonderful people who run this board to return if he complies with their requirements. The point is some of you mention his 'reputation' which implies to those that don't know him that he was mean or dishonest and I don't think any of that was ever true. So if you met him and think he is a good guy just say so, you don't have to say "Well, his reputation preceeded him but I was surprised he didn't eat any children during the convention". Nice is nice. I happen to be mean. |

Sorry I have been so long in popping into here, but when we got back from KIDabra I had to journey to the North of England for family stuff.
The highlight for Sally and me was meeting such a group of wonderfully welcoming people. Ken Scott, David Kaye, Dennis Michael, Mark and Tammi Daniels, Jolly Roger, Gary Shelton (I'm sure there were more, but it is 5.15am here, and I have just got back from a 300 mile drive back home!). Another highlight was the convention itself - everything about it was simply great and the other registrants were equally great to be around. I am of an age where I now go to British Conventions to meet up with friends I have known for years and play 'catch-up'. I hope that the new friends I have made will remain friends for a long time. As Dennis mentioned, we have already registered for next year, and I hope to add to my present list of U.S.A friends. Yet another highlight was Pigeon Forge itself. What a wonderful town and what marvellous people. There is another highlight .. the hotel staff and the hotel, although, as Roger mentioned, it was a bit strange not having a dining room, a bar or eggs and bacon for breakfast. I hope that lots of people read this thread and decide to make the trip next year. The KIDabra convention is bursting with sincere people and that is a most refreshing change. Many thanks for the kind words earlier in this thread; they are most appreciated. Take care y'all, Dave

Oh, I knew I would forget some people.
Bruce Amato was a gem of a person to talk to and share (dare I say it) a cigarette with. I like 'names' who are still 'people' - Bruce is one of those. Thanks a million Bruce. Dave

Hi guys
Just wanted to check in from Australia now that we are home and say what a great time we had. We came home loaded with ideas, it was awesome and definitely worth it. I have a question. I was totally inspired by Doug Scheer's presentation and am looking to make a rocket/space ship for the beginning of our show where my husband can appear from. (Like Doug's big box of crayola). Does anyone know where on earth I'd start? It's a Big idea, but Kidabra taught me to stay with those big ideas and just find out HOW to make them a reality. So I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction? My Dad's a pretty amazing carpenter, so can basically make anything, I'm just trying to think how I could do this? Thanks so much Jodie - Australia |

How about a Mirror Box? Production, or convert Osborne's Mummy's Sarcophagus: Illusion System Blueprints or Haunted Illusions. Just revise it for a space ship.
Both are large illusions.

Way-y-y-y back, along time ago (1973), there was a tv series starring Bill Bixby called "The Magician".
Anyhow, in the pilot episode, I think he did an illusion with a rocket ship. I was clear plexi, and became filled with smoke. He either appeared, vanished, or escaped from it. That's the only episode I've seen. Sometimes they run the pilot episode as a movie on TV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magician_(TV_series) - Donald
