The Effect
Four in One Set
by Tango

Effect

The magician shows four half dollar coins in his hand. He takes a coin and puts it in his pocket. He shows the hand and has four coins again. He takes a coin once again and puts it in his pocket, but he has four coins again in his hand. He repeats this operation once again, and he always has four coins in his hand. Finally, he show four coins in his hand, takes a coin and puts in his pocket, opens the hand, and the rest of the coins have disappeared.

Sounds like the Hopping Halves in "half dollar version".
In love with magic!

I hope that their suggested patter doesn't include telling the audience that they're not paying attention.

Just wonder about the quality of the gaff...
You need 4 of these to perform Explosion.

Ok, I received these and will give my initial review:

1) Quality of the coin: So we all know that this is a bunch of shells and a cut-down coin. Now Tango was not the best name in coin magic, but I have to say I am impressed with the quality. The fit of the cut-down to the first shell is almost perfect. Not tight, but you can't see the line. 1st shell to 2nd is a good fit as well, not too loose. And 2nd to 3rd is the same. The thickness of the coin is pretty nice, too. One coin + two shells = about one and a half coins thick. All in all, I say a nicely made gimmick. No real complaints. Date matched, as well.

2) Instructions: You get a dollar bill sized piece of paper. Instructions are minimal at best, but in defense, I don't feel they really are needed. These are utility coins. No patter is given. One BASIC routine is included. So there is no spectator is not paying attention patter....

3) Bonus points: These shells don't just work with this set!!! Take away the cut down coin and shell, and you have an expanded shell that works with any half. And then, you get the SUPER expanded shell that goes over any expanded shell. Now this KINDA irritated me, as I bought the Super Expanded half as well. But I can always use a spare!!!!

In conclusion, you get three gimmicks for $100. And the gimmicks are not tied to this effect. Worth it? I think so. I should add that this review is for the coins I received. Your coins, should you choose to buy this, might be better or worse....Better would be a stretch, though...

Hope this helps.....

Judah.

If you take the outer shell away, you basically have a Triple Threat gimmick. Interested to see the quality. Thanks for the review.

Doug,

For massed produced coins, they really are nice. Which is surprising from Tango.

P.S.> Love your DVDs, Doug!!!

Thanks for the review, Judah. Are there any magnetic properties with the shells and cut-down coin?

Hmmm... Are you sure about that? The TT coin gimmick has magnets cleverly built in the coins that allow you to throw the three nested coins in the air without them splitting apart...which is a great convincer.

Don't think this is the case with this gaff, is it?

Okay, no magnets, but still - you can do just about everything but toss the coin(s) in the air as a unit.

[Thanks, Judah!]

What Doug said...no magnets. But I found a neat thing with these...if you classic palm them, they fall out one at a time as you loosen your grip, so you can have them appear in a row......

Yes... but - as I said - throwing the coin(s) in the air is a GREAT convincer that you only have one coin... but sure, the price is not the same...

Could one really duplicate Dean Dill's explosion effect with 4 sets of 4 to 1 by tango? This would only cost $400 instead of $1000 from Dean!

I think the simple answer is "yes", but you got to be careful asking that. There will be a bunch of people telling you that you are not just getting the "coins" for explosion, you are getting the" routine". And according to Dean, Jamie is the only one allowing to sell the "explosion" coins.
