Henry Evans sells a similar effect but it uses large Chinese coins. Very well made. A bit easier to see than an effect with half dollar sized coins.
Henry's effect is called Four Forever: http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/four-for-e......c95794f7 sdmagic |

I think that Tango coins are improving! I recently purchased a couple of their folding quarters after seeing them at Tannen's. Their quality came very close to my older and more expensive set purchased from another company. When I showed them to other magicians they couldn't believe they were made by Tango!

I have been very happy with this set. So far ALL of the Tango coins I have bought RECENTLY have been very well made for mass produced coins. Maybe they found a better way to machine them?... Still happy!
'POOF' And thanks to Mr. Tango for coming on the Café!! Judah

I think there is a 3 coin set also made by Tango. Regarding Dean's Explosion routine, I actually like the original Explosion routine Dean taught on one of his DVDs. I think it only used 2 normal sh--ls, and the rest were held out in Classic Palm. For some reason this one always seemed more magical to me and I never saw the appearance of the other coins coming. Buy this DVD and you'll be doing it ethically without the large investment either.

Jamie Schoolcraft is the only coin gaffer that has my permission to make this 4 coin nest using the same coin. Using all four to produce a 16 coin production is my original idea and no one prior, has done anything like this.
Johnson products made my first set of Explosion Coins over 15 years ago. They never made this set until I had them do it. For Tango to make them, and you know they have heard of my Coin Explosion, is one thing and for them to mention that after a matrix routine you can produce 16 coins is not right. They needed to contact me before making a statement like this. It is mentioned in their add on their website. I have contacted Tango and am waiting for an answer. Many magicians have mentioned this to me and I finally decided to address this. Dean |

Hmmmm maybe I should just buy 100 sets and then produce 4oo coins! Then I would not be copying anyone!! Hey, wait a min.... if I did do this then I bet anyone with under 400 coins would be copying ME!! Except of course for Dean with his magical #16.
Note the sarcasm. No offense to Dean but he did not invent the shell. However as many shells you can fit over one coin has been a magician goal since before the first trick. This is why I think you all are quibbling over a mute point. I made 4 he made 8 they made 12 come on! Anyone that does math and magic can figure out that the more you buy the more you can produce so who cares unless they use a name that you have trademarked. Really, how picky some people get over nothing. |

As Far as Tango coins being junk.... I do not own any old ones. What I can say about them now is that I have flippers, shimmed, magnet, cig through (double sided), bite in 50 and 25 denominations, shelled and probably a few other kinds that I forgot. All from Tango!
The Tango coins are made better than most of the ones that are not made from Tango. That being said, I am going to a blacksmith and a jewler tomorrow. When I do so I am going to show them some of the coins and get quotes on what it would cost to make them for me. Then, I am going to show some of my ideas for new gaffed coins that I have NEVER ran into yet. I know I have not released my vids yet and I apologise. Since I am still in College and working in a band that is playing along with another 36 hour a week job working with deliquant children..... I have not been able to shoot and edit the last few scenes yet. This however is a good thing because in this time I have refined my application process and contracted for materials that would be very costly to get on an individual basis. I also found a neat little case to put these things in and by the time I release the illusion I may well make it even more impressive. Keep posted and I will shuck those gimmicks and DVD's all your way soon. Maybe I will have a few newer coin gaffs by then as well..... Later! |

You can of course use shells sets to produce tons of coins after any routine, but if you intent to use them in conjunction with translocation/shadowcoins type routine, you should really make it look totally different from Deans routine. And of course, it is common sense that you don't have any rights to present Deans explosion routine, even though you can buy the gaffs elsewhere. If you want to perform explosion, you must buy it from Dean and get the performance rights for the routine as well.
The gaff things also isn't as simple as it may sound. When someone invents a new coin, you aren't allowed to make one, just because you know how to make one. For example, Slippery sam and swadling flipper are products that are mass marketed today, but only few of the dealers bothered to ask permision to manufacture them. The case with the shell is more difficult in a sense that it is old as hills. The question is that is the invention of nesting 3 or more shells truly original or just common thing people would try to do... In a way I would like to go with Dean in this case, cos it seems that he was purely the first one to develop something with them (Or so I assume, I don't know historical knowledge on this). But again, there is so much other things that can be done with nest of four instead of just explosion. Tango has realised this and he isn't selling 4 x nest of fours just for people who want to steal deans routine. |

Ok... In regards to explosion. In my eyes Dean owns the rights to the routine. If you want to perform explosion in the same manner that Dean does then you should purchase the gaffs and routine from him.
However.. if you want to produce 12... 16 or however many coins in a different manner. Then it's no longer Deans routine. I mean I do pleanty of tricks that require me to produce 4 coins one at a time out of classic palm. I know I'm not the first to do that... but no one can tell me that I can't. I'm not stealing anyones work. The concept of new ideas in magic are constantly evolving from older ideas. If we didn't do that we would all be doing the same five tricks invented by some guy ages ago. It comes to a point when you have to let it go and allow the art to evolve. I'm not saying let people steal your work... but allow people to use similar ideas. I mean happens if the first guy to make a coin vanish wanted 25 bucks from everyone that wanted to use the concept going forward? As far as anyone owning the rights to a multi shell nest... I think that is absurd. My two cents Shawn

This isn't the only four coin nest to come around. Todd lassen has a four coin nest as well. There are many purposes that this can serve other than explosion. If you intend of performing explosion, buy it, but if you want to use this gaff in another way, then go for it!

A question regarding this 4 in 1 coin---when all the shells are nested, does an edge view show extra depth--or does each shell have enough depth to appear as only one coin? I have a set that when nested--you can see that there are multiple edges showing, unless you have the view straight downward.
Anyone know? Gene
