The idea is the magician takes a container filled with water, then switches it to wine. I'm sure that this trick has been done a couple hundred different ways, but can someone suggest one that looks fairly clean?
Thanks! |

If you can find a copy this is fully described in the book "Magic of the Masters" by Jack Delvin.

Hmmmmm, this is a pretty old trick.
Some guy did this effect at a wedding or something about 2000 years ago. Read about it in some book. :magicrabbit: Here's a thing from Denny and Lee's that would probably fill the bill. Slick-Quid $40.00 A silk and a small cordial glass of water are displayed. The water is poured into the closed left fist. The silk is pulled through the fist and the water vanishes. Silk is pulled back and forth through the hands and both hands are seen completely empty. The glass is then picked up and while being held the glass magically fills up with red liquid. This clever little gimmick allows this to be performed easily and smoothly with a minimum of practice. Fits well into almost any routine. Comes complete with instructions, gimmick, 24" silk, and cordial glass. http://www.dennymagic.com/cgi-bin/hazel.......m=003698

LOL! Cheaptrick! Yep...his name was Christ and he has been a hard act to follow.
Especially if he didn't have access to phenophthalein. The book was called the Bible as if you didn't know...lol! |

I perform this effect quite often in Children's shows (and occasionally for adults). I start with a jug of 'water' which I pour into the first glass - it stays as water. I then pour 'red' wine into the second glass, water into the thirs and red wine into the fourth. I then take a glass of each colour and pour them back into the jug, which turns the liquids back to 'water', then repeat this with the final two glasses.
I don't claim this to be the most original routine in the world, or indeed the effect to be very baffling in the 21st century, but as it involves liquids I guess not many peopel perform the effect as it is more messy than many other tricks, and when I've performed it peopel tend to have enjoyed the colour changes, particularly at the end when the liquids all turn back to colourless once again.
