This is the patter/story I'm using with my Dream Coin set as a multiplying/disappearing coin act. It was inspired by a comment my wife made that made me throw away the much more direct patter I had and rewrite it completely.
I'm very proud of this patter because it is the first one I've ever come up with that really distracts the audience from the effect and enlarges it in their minds. In many ways I think its the first I've come up with that I might dare to suggest was "pro quality." Comments and suggestions are welcome! Props: Dream Coin Set, Okitio Box, one normal half dollar and one canadian $2 coin Routine: The Elvi Magician introduces an okito box with a half dollar in it. "In this little brass box I have a half dollar..." Magician dumps the half dollar out of the box and holds it up. "Now,if you've ever really looked at a half dollar you may have noticed that there is an american eagle on one side, and a portrait of JFK on the other side." Magician shows both sides of the coin. "JFK was a very popular man in the 60s. The only man that was more popular was Elvis. Elvis was so popular that he had... impersonators." Magician does a pass and the half becomes two halfs. Magician takes one half and places it on the bar. "In fact, there were so many impersonators around that where you found one... you'ld probably find another." Magician passes the remaining half to his other hand and appears a new half in a scotch and soda "flip move" in the hand the coin used to be in. He places both halfs down one on either side of the first half he palced on the table, bringing the count on the table to 3. "Vegas in particular filled up with Elvi." Magician gestures over the three coins and picks up the ones on either end, holding them pinched in his fingers overlapping but both showing. "At his height, you could go to an Elvis concert, and even after he left..." Other hand covers the first hand, the opens to reveal only a single coin, which is thrown palm to palm showing both sides. "... thre'd still be one in the audience somewhere." Magaician picks up the last coin and again holds it pinched in thumb and fore finger along with the second, both showing. "Of course most people feel that in the end, there really was only one Elvis." Magician makes a pass and the two become one. "And you know what they used to say about that Elvis?" Magician picks up okito box and puts half in it. "They used to say 'Elvis has left the building.' Magician opens okito box to show that half is gone. "Now, you might wonder how you get someone that famous out of the building without anyone spotting it." Magician reintroduces a half dollar and a canadian $2 coin. "The answer is that you use one of the imposters. So you can see how it works, this time I'm going to use an imposter that looks different so you can tell which is which. The Half dollar is still Elvis, and the box is the stage. " Magician puts half back in Okitio box and sets it down. (To spectator) "Your hand is going to represent the off-stage area. I'm going to toss this $2 coin into your hand just like this (demonstrates.) When it hits your palm I want you to grab onto it tight so it can't get away, okay?" Magician tosses $2 coin into spectators hand. "Okay, you feel that coin tight in your hand? its not going anywhere?" Spectator assents and magician picks up the okito box again and rattles it by his ear. "The way to get Elvis off the stage, is to switch him with the imposter." Magician opens Okito box showing canadian $2 coin in it. "And while everyone is watching the imposter on stage, he has time to slip away unnoticed. Open your hand, please." Spectator opens his hand revealing the half dollar. Magician drops the box and the two coisn on the table for inspection. "And that is how it is done." ==================================== Note that the routine leaves me totally clean. The last transposition is slight of hand with normal coins. Those who do coin magic I'm sure have a good idea of how to do that.
