I have been through with listening to 'them' for years anyway but it seems weekly there is proof offered of the massive tonnage of BS fostered on us. (I eat eggs most every day even when they told me not to. My cholesterol has always been fine.)

I eat eggs almost everyday. I like them all ways; fried, omelets, hard-boiled, etc. I like egg salad and deviled eggs too. I also eat oat meat and lots of fruit.

So let me get this straight, are these free range oats?...those wild oats are out there running uh wild and then they are butchered and sold in butcher shops? Is oat meat very fatty?

Another group followed the same diet, but cut out eggs altogether. Both groups lost weight and saw a fall in the average level of blood cholesterol. In other words- a restricted calorie diet can lower cholesterol, regardless of egg consumption. The headline was just discounted by the article itself. Well, the headline was (apparently) true enough.
But you have to read the story to figure out in what respects. The story does not contradict the hypothesis that eating more eggs will raise your cholesterol, with everything else held constant. Personally, I love eggs. Particularly in Denver (aka Western) sandwiches. Mmmm. Maybe I'll have one of those tomorrow morning.

Cholesterol is produced naturally by the liver. I eat everything but processed food and my cholesterol levels are that of a twenty year old (I'm nearly 48). My brother-in-law (47) and his wife (30) both have high cholesterol. Did I mention they're on low fat diets? If junk science would stop looking at the outside, they'd figure out the real cause. My guess is a faulty digestive tract due to irregular eating habits and stress.

Cholesterol is mostly found in animal fats: all food containing animal fats contains cholesterol; however food not containing animal fats also contains cholesterol in varying amounts. Cholesterol is excreted from the liver in bile and reabsorbed from the intestines. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles transport cholesterol back to the liver for excretion and having large numbers of large HDL particles correlates with better health outcomes.

It reminds me of Woody Allen's "Sleeper". When the future scientists are discussing the health food of the past, and one asks the other "Didn't they know about cigarettes and chocolate?".

My family has a bad history of heart disease so I try to cut out as much animal fat as I possibly can from our diets, but egg whites are a pure protein and very good for you so we often eat them for dinner, scrambled and cooked in a tiny amount of olive oil, then put on toast, with some turkey chili spooned on top and a light sprinkling of cheese on top. We love this. Egg whites have something like 23 calories per egg, so you only get about 400 if you eat 18 egg whites, so that is what I do, I'll scramble 18 eggs and make 6 or 7 open face sandwiches for my husband and he loves it.
` ` ` My husband also loves hot dogs so I take those chickens at the market that are cooked and come home and boil them to remve more fat, pouring off any fat in the water, cool it in the refrigerator and use the cold chicken instead of processed meats or hot dogs in the hot dog buns, cover it with turkey chili, then chopped onion and mustard and he can't tell he is not eating a hot dog. I use the breast meat to have a stronger bite sensation to simulate a hot dog bite feeling. My husband likes chocolate ice cream, I put ripe bananas in the refrigerator and some get extra ripe over many days. The skin gets a lot darker and these you can put in a food processor with some chocolate sauce and whip up, or you can just cut them up and smash them with a fork and mix in the chocolate sauce and it tastes LIKE Chocolate ice cream, almost exactly. My husband's family has a bad cancer history and keeping a healthy weight, getting exercise and keeping his test results very nearly perfect should help protect him. Evolve629, Our doctor compared all the cholesterol levels for my husband over several years and the more exercise he got the better the levels, so exercise strongly effects your numbers. We both have perfect levels. I believe the Framingham study of a huge number of people over a period of many years found that people who had life long low levels lived to quite advanced ages, like 90's and over 100. Because of my family history of heart disease and early death we eat a diet that is really healthy but it took me some time to come up with it to meet our junk food tastes. But I succeeded. I make something that we think is better than ice cream and we eat a lot of fruit too. I put together something about longevity and what you can do to increase your longevity and the latest stuff on that and if you want it just pm me. I believe we pretty much have everything under control now healthwise and our tests show it, even insurance tests that check out the numbers of everything. Eating carefully does actually make a difference and it shows in the test results and you CAN do it without a big hassle. Although I have studied Nutrition from a Nasa nutritionist and PhD, I do not go to great lengths to make sure our diet is safe and healthy. I boil chickens and 96% fat free hamburger and pour off the water to get as much fat out as I can, do crack 18 eggs and throw out the yolks, but that is about as difficult as it gets. BUT It took quite a while to figure out how to do it and feel like we were still eating the same type of food we like and not going to health food extremes. I have it down enough now. If my husband wants ice cream or a really sweet big bowl of something great, I have it ready in the refrigerator and it takes no time to put it together and have it ready. It took time to figure out how to do it. It is worth doing if it will extend your life and keep you free of health problems longer. Being over weight and eating anything IS life shortening. If you want to read about how you can change I would be happy to share what I do. |

I need to get my cholesterol checked. I love listening to "them" when they say this or that is bad or good. I've been hoping for 15 years they'd say smoking is good for you. I've been smoke free for just under 14 weeks, and if those ***s come out and say it's good for me anytime soon I will be peeo'd

MAKmagic,
That's great you quit smoking! Some people don't show ill effects, and it has to do with their genes, but most people do and it can correlate with length to use too. It's a stupid habit and not worth losing your life for. It's really Great you quit |

There's a great new study out today. Apparently, the recently discovered obesity gene, can be counteracted with...get this....exercise. Brilliant! I wonder how they stumbled across that?
