To all my friends in the Café,
This is my humble take on John Ramsey's classic Cylinder and Coins. I would like to thank Jonathan Townsend for turning me on to Ramsey. I grew up in Manila with practically short of a handful of books in magic. It was only recently that I acquired materials on Ramsey. I have seen several versions over the years and loved all of it. This is my way of honoring Ramsey! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoYiUty-rco Enjoy! Mabuhay from Manila, Rannie

Classic magic done well. A very complete, solid routine. You seemed very humble, I liked the approach.
The pencil wand is a great prop! Single camera tiny video stinks for close-up.

Thank you Rannie.
As a beginner in coin magic, I thought that the routine was great. As a Scot, thank you for the tribute to my countryman. Tom

The Gentleman's name is John Ramsay! I mispelled his name. My apologies. I took the video down and I will re edit at once. An honest mistake from the Manila "guy".
Mabuhay! Rannie

I have always liked the Ramsay Cylinder and coins. Maybe you should name this highly original routine the "Ran-say Cylinder"

Thank you my dear friends. I don't think I will ever find myself naming Ramsay's classic any other way. It is just an honor to be able to perform his routine as myself. I hope somewhere in heaven the old master is smiling. I try to honor the masters by learning and studying their routine as they did it....and develop what I have learned. As a teacher, I feel very honored when my students take my routines to hights I never imagined...all the more when they improve it. It is only then that I feel I did something right.
Thank you John Ramsay! Rannie PS. I must add to my credits Mr. Galloway. If there is one particular routine from Ramsay that I learned from watching Galloway, it would be the 3 coins and a hat. His explanation of Ramsay's Cylinder and Coins made me understand not only how it works but why it works. I must add John Carney as well. The reason I mentioned Townsend was because he was the one who really turned me on to Ramsay. I did mention Mano because of a particular move that he showed me years ago. Gallo's take on the routine really got me going. Gallo was my inspiration to work on this wonderful routine of Ramsay. PPS. Without going into the methods of things...I would say the biggest problem I had (just me) would be the sound problem. This is why I tried with all my might to find a way around it. Now I am able to perform this with any sized coins and they don't have to be soft. I also wanted to end exactly how it was in the beginning. For the record... I loved every version I have seen. Well.... almost all of them. This routine is like the cups and balls in my opinion. Just like food...I think it is a complete meal. A complete excercise in magic. Everything is utilized... Misdirection, a bit of psychology, patter, choreography etc...

Terrific as usual Rannie. Thank you for sharing your performance of this classic. By the way, your Pencil Eraser wand looks great and adds a fun bit to making things dissappear. Clever idea. Maybe incorporate it into a single coin routine using a phase of Roth's Eraser Coin. Please let me know if you intend to start selling them.
Thanks, Mitch |
