I just recently watched the Best Moments of the Amazing Kreskin. I have been fascinated by hypnotism for some time now. After watching this program I am convinced that I would like to spend some time studying the topic. Here is the question I have. Kreskin calls this on his program as the power of suggestion. Some may call it hypnotism. I am interested in learning his form of suggestion/hypnotism. Supposedly he doesn't put anyone into a trance state. What suggestions do you guys have in books or dvd's for a beginner in this area? Thank you,

Hi Jason,
Kreskin simply has a different interpretation of what "hypnosis" really is. Truth is we do not really "fully" understand the concept, but what is certain, is that it is all based upon suggestions being accepted by the mind. Therefor, no "tracne" is needed, no "sleep" is needed either. Kreskin is a master at demonstrating this. However, don't be fooled by the T.V segments shown. There was a simple "induction" done on the volunteers, quite the same as any normal hypnotist would do. Good starting grounds for you are "Fun with Hypnosis" by professor Svengali....just google it...it looks cheesy, but trust me, it will get you on the path....hope this helps.... |

Oral,
THanks for the reply. Since I made that post almost two weeks ago I have done some research and come to the conclusion myself that Kreskins idea of suggestion and hypnosis are basically the same thing. Thanks for the help and if you have anymore suggestions I would appreciate it |

I just taught a course in speed hypnosis in three different cities in India that included a whole lot of the sort of Waking Hypnosis that Kreskin called suggestion. It's a lot of fun and does include instant effects such as hands stuck to various parts of the body, hallucinations, and the like. It takes confidence to perform this way but it is genuine. There are a few folks who do shows of this type.

Sweet, I think if anything, Kreskin was just proving that there does not need to be any "sleep" with the phenomenon of hypnosis. "Sleep" is not needed as most lay public (and countless hypnotists themselves) believe(!)

My understanding is that Kreskin started pushing the whole "no such thing as hypnosis" bit after some of his former markets began controlling "hypnosis shows" but not "mentalism" or "suggestion" shows. He was able to capitalize on the former accepted belief that hypnosis required relaxation or some sort of "trancelike zombie or sleep" state when it doesn't work that way after all. Contemporary brain scan studies have shown that something does indeed happen with hypnosis so it does exist just not in the Svengaliesque way formerly believed.
