So I've lent out some of my Paul Harris books to I don't know who and was wanting to look up an effect but obviously couldn't.
So I went to Youtube and within a few seconds found a vid of someone doing the effect. This enabled me to piece together the bits of the effect missing from my brain. While I found this to be very handy I'm not sure in principle it's a good thing that I was able to do this. I have no concerns over the ethics of me refreshing my memory of an effect I already own and have paid for but the entire effect could just as easily be reverse engineered by anyone who could be bothered. With this example of an obscure card effect it's not really too much of an issue but there are probably other effects out there for which it could be. The entire point might, I guess, be a bit moot as at the end of the day even if you're not happy about it there's next to nothing that can be done to hold back the surge of the info highway. Anyway I'm happy I've reacquired the effect... any thoughts anyone? Neal

Well,
My take on it FWIW is that video is a reality now of our lives. A good performance isn't likely to reveal much. A bad performance is, and there are of course many of those. But bad performers have always been with us. On the bright side.... there is so MUCH stuff on you tube that the chances of anyone stumbling on any particular performance is pretty small. Really though, if you wanted to reverse engineer something and you were smart, you wouldn't just look at you tube. The web makes it possible to find and collect many reviews and such. Based on putting all of those together you could probably figure out most illusions. I think that's sort of a reality of our world today. Of course this is rally just another form of research and you always could learn a lot in a well stocked library or magic bookstore.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.
