When you guys have time please post your review! Also, please post how practical you think this is. I am very impressed with this and would love to see Joe's creepy garage and fridge once more. I always get a grin when I watch my Ladybug dvd.

I agree with Randi in a lot of ways. I don't believe anyone would believe it to be a "tattoo". tattoos are permanent by nature. this is not even "seemingly" permanent, and I think that was her point.
they mystery does not seem to me to be "how the tattoo appeared then disappeared" but how you got the picture on then off. |

I totally understand the issue with the impermanence of the tattoo. However, keep in mind, while the trick is called Tattoo Joe, I've never performed it saying that a "tattoo" was appearing. The image or writing appears on your arm and everyone is like wow! and then it disappears. So while it may appear to be a tattoo it can also appear to be just writing or images. I would never say, "I'm going to make a tattoo appear," and then perform this.
Do this once and you'll be hooked. It's like a close up special effect. It's really unlike anything most anyone has seen up close and live. And in regards to the secret Paul Harris writings that I had teased earlier in the thread, I'll be posting my notes on an important story that Paul told me that, in my opinion, sums everything up. Keep in mind, this is stuff that Paul really doesn't want me to write about, he has some serious reservations about putting these thoughts out there for several reasons, all of which I'll be discussing. It'll be posted either after or during the David Blaine special on The Astonishment Project in my blog. Thank you to everyone who contacted me requesting this stuff, I was able to convince Paul to let me post a bit of it. A lot of what we talked about and some of my own thoughts that were synthesized from the discussions will also be available shortly in The Miracle Model. If you're at all interested presenting magic as an art form then you'll want to hear Paul's thoughts on the subject..... Thanks again for the thoughts and comments on that and Tattoo Joe. We all (Joe, Paul and I) appreciate everyone's interest and feedback. Best, Jason |

I do like the trick, I just think it needs ( for me ) a different perspective. a different hook... will have to think on it
Btw, I can almost NOT perform this trick.... I have a lot of tattoos (sleeve) hehe |

I agree with Jason and it's exactly what I was going to say. You don't tell them it's a tattoo, it's just the name of the trick.

It's not just the name of the trick though, it's all over the ad copy in big bold letters.
PAUL Harris PRESENTS JOE RUSSELL'S TATTOO JOE Your examined empty hand gently rubs your naked arm...A BIG BOLD TATTOO SLOWLY AND VISIBLY APPEARS ON YOUR SKIN! Rub your arm again and the TATTOO COMPLETELY VANISHES! And if you feel like it, make a totally DIFFERENT TATTOO appear on your OTHER ARM! |

If you say "If I just rub, you will see something appears. . ." they can take it however they like. Tattoo, drawing or whatever. Your still making it appear and disappear visually which is the main point of the effect. If you want to call it a tattoo, then by all means, go ahead but the image is not limited to just be a tattoo. Let the spectators decide for themselves.

Well there we have it everybody, you MUST use it EXACTLY as the ad copy reads.

LAmaze5410: In relation to what we're discussing, the add is as unimportant as the effect's name. It doesn't matter if the add says it's a tattoo, it's the same concept as the title of the effect calling it a tattoo.

Reviews? Is it that good or is it that bad, the reason for none?

Well I like it a lot but I'm a tad bit partial. The Paul Harris story will go up tomorrow as I'm a bit overwhelmed with the Dive of Death promotion.....
Hope everyone tuned in, some great stuff.... Best, Jason |

I received this today, and I have spent sometime deciding whether or not to post a review. My reveiw will be short and based on my oppinion only. The DVD is very good, covers about every square inch of the effect. The effect is very creative, the method is BOLD. This will not be for everyone, and I think it will be the kind of effect where some will run with it and have great success, while others will be disappointed. Without saying to much, as I do not in anyway want to reveal anything, I relate this to something like a King Rising Levitation. Everything has to be just right for you to perform this properly without giving away the secret. For me, I would not be comfortable doing this close up as advertised, and after messing around with the method, I don't think it is a sure fire effect either. You certainly will need to take the instructions and advice from the DVD, and pracitce this really well before doing it in front of someone. I like the teaching and creativity behind this, however it isn't for me. JMHO!

I'm always glad to hear things take practice. I don't care for the "learn it today and perform it tonight" effects. That means anyone can do it.
As far as the name of things go, with Google, I don't call effects by their name anymore. In the 70's-early 90's, you could call C/S/B "The Old 3 Coin trick". Not anymore. Don't call it anything or use a red herring.

Hey everyone,
I have been reading your threads and I just wanted to make a few comments. Yes tattoo joe will take some practice until you get comfortable with the gimmick and have found the right effect on the DVD the suits you. I wouldn't say the method is "BOLD" though. It is the type of effect that happens soooo unexpectedly that your audience will absolutely freak out. I have used this in my regular act for a while now and as long as you are aware of your angles (which I cover on the DVD how to combat bad angles) you will never get caught....ever I appreciate all the feed back I am getting back from you guys. If anyone has purchased the effect and has any specific questions, but they are worried about exposure. They can PM me or email me at lookathemonkey3@aim.com. I will be happy to help anyone out. Keep the reviews coming. Peace JR

Sorry for the turmoil. Sometimes I like to throw a polecat in the hen house and run. (I just made that up. What do you think?) Randi |

I wonder if the gimmick is able to cover a real or temporary tattoo and you make it appear. This way the spectator could touch and examine it.

Polecat in the hen house?, haha I say we keep it.
:) About Tatoo Joe, I was concerned with angles from the get-go. Can we get a consensus from users? This is precious stuff for every creator. So, thank you "INMOTION" for your honesty. As Joe said: "Keep the reviews coming." |
