Hi,
I'm in serious need of a nice vent stand... I'm considering two suppliers...Dummy Works and Al Good Has anyone seen or used the ones from Al Good...I heard that Al's stands were sold out at VentHaven and Al seem like a very nice guy. Wanlu

Wanlu -
I use Al's stand - bought the stand prior to the convention and then at the convention I purchased one of his tops. I love the thing, it fits easily in my case and beats the microphone stand I was lugging around. I also ordered a custom P&L style table base from Owen Magic. The thing packs flat and assembles in a few moments. It is made of aircraft aluminum so it is very light weight. They made it to my specs so it would fit my case and be taller than the "stock" table. I crafted the top. Al's was about $350 cheaper - and I use his more often! I will be using the Owen's when flying however - it weighs less than Al's base. |

I have a love and hate relationship with the vent performance stand.
I may use it now, then in a moment, I don't. I build my own stands using different materials. Now I'm about to build a stand with wheels. Funny, but in about 90% of my shows I don't stands. I use the traditional figure-on-the-knee style. I love it. And I like the look of it being an old-fashioned 1920s vaudeville ventriloquism. But yes, I heard great things about Al's stands. |

Hi,
My vent stand (top) from Al Good arrived today...it looks really nice and very profesional. I still don't have the stand, the top arrived earlier than the stand but so far I like the top. Not too big...not too small. I managed to try it out on an old mic stand and my Axtell orangutan sits comfortably on the top. I'll try it with my Poyner as soon as the stand arrives

That's great to hear, Wanlu.
Instead of a vent stand, I just built my new performance stool (where I sit, with the figure on my lap/knee). The design is very simple and minimalist. I used stainless steel tubes and (here's my twist)... A RACER BIKE SEAT! I used it twice already and I liked it very much. I'm so comfortable performing with it. I'll post photos here one day. |

I'm sure you know about these already.
Pretty light and strong too. http://www.instand.com/CR3/cr3.html

I have used one of Al's stands for a couple years now to display one of my figures. It is very sturdy. Great product and great price!!

I used my Al Good Vent stand this afternoon...well...atleast just the top.
The stand got lost and was sent by the USPS to Singapore which is of course not the fault of Al... The size of the top is perfect http://www.geocities.com/thepartyzoo/algoodtop.jpg

I've used my Al Good vent stand in about half a dozen shows aleady and I'm liking it! Very portable, since everything can be placed in my suitcase.
I carry just ONE suitcase in most of my gigs, which lately are adult shows. One case, one figure, one vent stand, and about one hour show. |
