I see professor Stephen Hawking says he believes they will not find the Higgs boson, which will be much more exciting; as it will mean physicists will have to reconsider everything they believe about particle physics.
Now wouldn't that be a spectacular waste of money & time? |

Back on topic: I tried looking at the live feed yesterday, and it didn't work. Apparently there were a lot of other people interested in doing the same thing. And sorry to disappoint, but I've been thinking about my friends comment, and what he must have meant is that the CMS section of the LHC is starting up on Friday. Still, who knows what is really going to happen on Friday? |

Some reports say they are going to do the collision Friday, some say 2 weeks, some say 30 days. My guess is they don't want to release the exact date that they'll "cross the streams" until after the fact.

Pepka, I still haven't seen any reports that they are going to do a collision Friday. I wish you had posted a link. (Naughty Boy! I asked for links earlier in the thread.)
As I said, my friend said "the black hole thing starts Friday", and then he ran off to France and I haven't heard from him. I guess I can send him an email. But I'd bet he's getting 500 emails a day right now. I'll let y'all know if I learn anything new. |

I agree, seeing as they themselves are not exactly sure whether it will be successful, they might first want to see what happens before they let the world know.
