Do any of you magicians live in Austin? I'm pretty new to magic and I'm looking for other magicians in the area (preferably around my age, I am 19). I go to the university of Texas. Any UT magicians or Austin magicians around?

I'm so jealous. Everything that people claim about Nashville is true about Austin, the real music capitol of the world. Austin is where music fanatics go when they die.

Austin has very active SAM and IBM groups. A lot of great magicians in Austin. Tell Opie hey for me when you meet him. (Or you can look him up in the phone book it is Opie Houston, and he is also very active in the Austin Magic scene.

There are over fourty music venues in Austin, not to mention Stubbs, a world famous BBQ joint, and where "Austin City limits" is shot. The greatest music convention "South by South West" happens there. Austin is everything Nashville claims to be, and more. They have jazz, rock, blues, folk, R&B, and all the stuff that the C&W crowd never heard of. Hoochy Coochy I'm ready to go.

They also have Lance Armstrong.

However...

I would never go to Austin, they have texans there!

When ever I called you Jason in the past it made you angry. Now I'm angry because I can't make you angry by calling you Jason. You have Texas all wrong they are beautiful people as long as you stay out of Dallas that is.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Call up Texas Magic Supply in Cedar Park (just north). They have lectures from time to time and can hook you up with some folks.

Someone PMed me to find out "what's so bad about Dallas"? The answer to that question is the boys with the ->*<- on their helmets. Monday night their worst nightmare will come true.

I heard something funny once... the only problem with Austin is that it's surrounded by Texas.

I live in Austin now, moved from Los Angeles, however, I've lived all over Texas, in Nashville and Oklahoma as well so I've had a little bit of a journey.

Good folks everywhere, but posers in all places. Being a guitarist, I can tell you there are great musicians here, but most come here to hone their chops and hope to get hired in Nashville or L.A. The few studio-quality guitarists that are actually here are settled and playing for fun now.

Magic isn't really as visible here. (By that I mean you have to be looking for it)

Look at all the haters…I know that you’re just jealous that you can’t be Texans...or even from Dallas for that matter. This really is a great place. It’s especially nice in Dallas, which they named after me. You see, this is the second time I have lived in Dallas and the first time I was here they called it Dal, Texas and then I moved away so they were Dal-less…and you know how they talk in Texas.

Don’t hate us. We’ve got it all. It’s like the song says…

We’ve got Bob Wills and Willie and Asleep at the Wheel,
ZZ Top and George Straight—they’re all keeping it real.
