Bill,
We in New Orleans are all praying for Texas. Yesterday I don't think I saw one person I know that didn't have some comment about worring for you guys. Some areas on our coast were flooding (again) just from the surge.

Big nasty Ike!!!

The bulk of the storm is now past. We had minimal street flooding -- not even enough to comment upon. We lost some small branches in our "manipulating" trees. The house is safe and dry.

Three panels came loose from the patio cover, but those can go back on easily.

We have no elecricity. My battery is going.

More when I get a charge

Thabks all for your thoughts abd prayers.

Heck, in a temper he may have started the storm….

Imagine the billiard ball move that most manipulators do, where they make the billiard ball run from finger to finger, while the hand is held vertically. Now imagine two oaks doing the same move. It's impressive.

I'd imagine they'd be using giant wooden German-made balls, while the young trees down the street are playing with Fakinis.

Hopefully, most in your area fared as well as you seem to have. Smile

Glad all is well.

Just to be safe, maybe Rannie will make you an oar wand. You could jump into an extra jumbo cup and paddle out of there.

It was rough, but we made it. If you don't see any posts from me for a while, don't worry. My battery is about to go on my laptop.

I'll be back when I have more power.

A friend of mine had an extra generator, which he has lent me. I'm still using the horrible 56 K Modem; however, I can now use a real keyboard and monitor with my laptop, and that makes me feel good.

We had a lot of tree debris in our yard. We made curbside piles from about 1/4 of it, but there was a lot more to do. Some people came by last night and offered to do the rest of the cleanup for $650. My wife told them we couldn't afford that, so they came down to $300. Then she called me. I told her to tell them to forget it. Our yard guys did the work today for $80. I tipped them generously and told them to get a decent lunch.

Hey, Bill... If you can save a small chunk of that tree, I'll turn a cup for you from it when things get back to normal down there.

The news footage coming from Galveston and Houston look bad. Sadly, it also seems too many people didn't learn from Katrina's lessons. Even those who did, or managed to come out with their lives, still lost so much. I'm sure we'll be donating what we can when the local sites are organized.

A member of our magic club works for Alabama Power, and he is already down there (with many, many others) working on the problem.

Glad to hear all is well with you Bill,

Here in Baton Rouge, we got tore up pretty bad from Gustave.
I now those folks in Galveston got it worse than we did.

Hopefully things will calm down now.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

I'll see if I can find a chunk of that tree.

I know Gustav made a mess out of Baton Rouge.

Things are not quite as bad as the media would make you think, though.

Houston has a huge advantage over New Orleans when it comes to hurricanes. Most of Houston is above sea level. We are also not directly on the coast. There is a buffer zone of some 30 miles or so on the Southeastern part of the city.

We have several major interstate highways coming into Houston -- 45 from the north and south, 10 from the east and west, and 59 from the northeast and southwest. There are many suitable places for staging zones. By the time a hurricane has passed over the city, at least 65% of the land is above water. 24 hours later, that figure rises to 85%. This was not the case during Katrina. For almost a week after Katrina, there was really no place in town to put the supplies.

Actually we could recover very well without any help from FEMA.

Bill -

Glad to learn you are safe and sound with only minor damage to your place. Let's hope that is the last one in the Gulf for this season.
