OK guys and gals, my g/f saw Melinda do the zombie ball on one of my WGM tapes, and she really liked it. She only has experience with cups and balls and a couple of card tricks. I've never used a zombie ball— is this appropriate for her? If not, what's a good thing in place of it?
Hey I'm a magician, i've never told a lie.....oops:o/

I am curious also, I have no experience with a Zombie Ball. Is this a difficult trick to master?

Zombie is probably one of the easiest effects to do poorly and one of the hardest to do well. Done without sufficient practice or acting ability, it is almost painful to watch, usually too long, and not mysterious at all. A recent discussion on performing it well is elsewhere in this forum here, but there have been other discussions in different sections as well. Searching the site for the term "zombie" should turn most of them up.
There are few effects I know of that will make magicians wince as badly as this one will when it is mishandled. It can be quite beautiful though when done by someone who has really mastered it. Something to strive for if you like it! -Reg {*}

Well, I think that training a few years with the zombie will make a few effects a lot easier to learn, like the floating table and the trick I LOVE, the ultimate dancing hank.
Just an opinion. Regards |

There are a few effects that fit under the category that Reg mentioned 'Easy to perform badly - hard to perform well'.
And I do agree that the zombie is amongst these effects— as well as the linking rings (in my opinion). If she is willing to put in the practise then I don't see why not— but this isn't a 'buy today - perform tomorrow' effect. Just noticed you were also looking for alternatives. Check out 'astro-sphere(s)' which is a floating ball that uses a different gimmick. I'm not saying it's any easier to perform than the Zombie, but some prefer the workings. -Kevin- |

I dropped Zombie from my repertoire, years ago. It has too many angle problems, lighting problems and can't be performed outdoors -- major drawbacks for my act.
If someone only performs their standup act in theatres, it's a good choice. If you still want to learn it, get the Tim Wright tape on Zombie. |
