Johnny Carson was a great friend of magic. While he knew a few tricks, he's real contribution came by promoting and being excited about what we do.
Who are the new friends of magic? I don't mean 'which celebrities also performed magic' (Muhammad Ali, Adrien Brody) but who out there SUPPORTS magic! 1) Neil Patrick Harris - Loves magic and promotes it at every turn. Also a great magician himself. 2) America's Got Talent - although it doesn't shy from slamming bad acts! 3) Steve Martin - Started out as a magician. Still loves it. 4) Drew Barrymore, Teri Hatcher, and Lucy Liu are all members of the castle. 5) Orsen Welles - enough said! 6) Jason Alexander - performs magic AND often mentions his love in interviews. 7) Woody Allen often writes magician characters into his plays and movies. 8) Pamela Anderson? Carmen Electra? 9) The cast of Celebracadabra? |

David Mamet? At the very least, he throws a fair bit of work in Ricky Jay's direction.

For those of youse what frequent The Magic Kingdom, Steve Martin starred (maybe it's still running) in a film about Walt Disney at the Opera House on Main Street. In his intro, Martin does some PHENOMENAL back palming...the guy's got serious chops with cards.
His movies, meh. |
