I recently spotted "Religion For Dummies." Oh boy.
Thought: Why does man kill? He kills for food. And not only food: frequently there must be a beverage.

This book also works great as a gag in your show. If you're a comedy magician and it fits your style, anyway. I pretend to mess up a trick, then reach into my case and pull out 'Magic For Dummies' and flip through it, as though to find the solution to why I messed up. This always gets a great laugh, because almost everyone is familiar with this series of 'Dummies' books and they can relate to it. Then I get the trick right and blow them away with the magic.

Great book. Terrific resource. Some stuff that you feel is way too cool for laymen to have their hands on.
I have done the Seven Penny Trick from Bobo's for over ten years, literally hundreds of times, mostly for children. I have seven kids go get a penny from their parents and bring it back to do the trick. I have performed it as many as ten times in a single walkaround session.(The trick is originally from Terry Lynn's "Principles and Deceptions.") When I read the Seven Penny-Reflex Test routine in Magic for Dummies, I re-thought how I was presenting it and changed the patter. The approach in Magic for Dummies is clearer and more effective, although I still do the trick with the number of coins diminishing each time as in Bobo's. And I bend the seven coins in the seven different kids' hands for the finale. That's not in either book!
