You are absolutely right. In some cases it is the song itself that ends up creating the routine around it. The same can be said for Topas' "Time in a Bottle" routine.

However, that shouldn't be an excuse for shoehorning a song into an effect...

Oh absolutely right. It just means that a song itself can be the inspiration for a creative routine. The creative process could be sparked by a simple song that is heard.

I agree with 1-2 exceptions being the best format to create what you
are looking for in music for your act Generally you will hear a great piece of music & visualise an effect that would look great with that music on Original topic about overused songs-2 spring to mind recently overused in every large show Ive seen live or TV-nausiating!!! "Get Ready for this"- by Unlimited "Dance of the sabres"-usually used for performing dogs etc...- |

Hehehehe Oh man how could I forget, "Are you ready for this". Totally right Brent. I hear that so many times it isn't funny. I once saw a contest where 6 of the 15 aqcts used that song. hehehe

LOL I used to use Axel F.... and I still use Abracadabra for certain shows... wow I thought I was being inventive using Axel F... but now I use songs from some of the places you all have suggested we get them from so I don't have to worry about the copywrite... Dave

I think I have one that trumps 'em all:
"Vanishing Bandanna" soundtrack
Nathan Allen, The Maniac of Magic

It's crucial that the magician sings this lyric personally in between every effect: "Oh, Oh, Oh, it's magic!
You know-o-o, Never believe it's not so." This is extremely powerful, especially if the performer has no singing ability whatsoever. |
