Hi
I have seen this advertised and looks interesting as I am always looking to add gambling style effects to my routine Casino Caper From the fertile mind of the late Jule Lenier comes this very strong mentalism routine. It's a light-hearted routine about the world of gambling with the odds of your number coming up! Unlike many other mental routines, you are given the option of creating either a serious or humorous theme! Using three volunteers, a pair of dice, a roulette wheel and a deck of cards, you make three separate predictions. Explain how the odds of an individual's number coming up increases in each of these games. Yet, in the end, all three of your predictions match each volunteer's thoughts and choices! Casino Caper comes complete with Roulette wheel, playing cards, pair of 1.5" red dice, reusable prediction cards, performance tray, instructional DVD and deluxe carrying bag. Casino Caper is strong visual magic that is fun and easy to learn! Great for strolling and/or stand-up performers! Anyone got any reviews on it ? |

I assumed it was some type of Epic effect although I was wondering about the workings seems a little expensive for a miniture roulette whell a couple of dice and a pack of cards ?
Is there an oppotunity to get different outcomes ? |

It's definitely expensive for what you get in terms of props.
The theory is that you're paying just over half for Lenier's routine and patter. The added bonus is that you don't have to shop for the wheel or the tray You've probably already got the dice and cards. I think it does a fine job of obscuring the principle at work though. |

I thought maybe one of more of the props maybe gimmicked to achieve the necessary outcome ?

You've probably been kicking around magic long enough to know which one

I have since read the Larry Becker version of this so I am still a little puzzaled what you get for your cash. I have already found an equivilent Roulette wheel on Ebay for around $10, so with a pack of cards and a set of dice the total costs of this cant be more than $20 so where is the other $129 worth coming from ?

You're paying for the fact that this is Jules's personal routine, performed, honed, and perfected by Jules himself.
If you don't find value in purchasing a fully scripted and tested routine with all required props included, then you're probably not the customer this package is aimed at. Amateurs (and I don't use that word to imply any disrespect) usually aren't the target market for this type of item. |

I would have thougth amateurs where the type of people that need a full routine whereas a professional is able to script his own show.
I am currently working on a Las Vegas style routine and this would certainly fit in, I have looked at a number of Epic effects including the Labco routine and would be interested in this effect but need to understand if I could have a different outcome with different tables. Another article states "From the workshop of master craftsman Doug Malloy comes Jules Lenier's Casino Caper" This would indicate that there is more to this than a cheap Roulette Wheel, some Cards and Dice !! |

I don't know the routine but dare asking why it is that magicians rarely understand that the method or the props are worth substantially much less than a script well structured, even if they are smart enough to adapt that script to their character and personality?
This is sincere question. Is it because they are not investigating enough before buying? Is it because they are always after the next trick without settling on a few effects and having fun polishinig them in baby steps over the years? Amateur comes from the latine "amare" wich means "to love" (so amateur is definitely not an insult) but do the men check and save on the drinks and the restaurant when they want to date a girl? I tend to believe that they will have a longer lasting pleasure polishing a script and a character than polishing a girl (or for a girl polishing a guy), but am I totally nuts (pun intended)?

To all concerned,
I had the pleasure of meeting Jules when he worked at Hollywood Magic down by the beach. When I heard he passed I bought this kind of as a sentimental thing. Well let me tell you this is great magic! And it's entertaining too! And I don't just mean for the performer either. The props are beautiful---yes I said beautiful. Over-sized dice (NOT gimmicked), the Roulette Wheel is sooo much nicer than you would think, and it comes in a case. The dvd is well done and even "quirky". And there's even a nice picture of Jules in his "I'm trying to get an image here" pose on the dvd. Jules was my friend and a man who always greeted you with "Hello my friend." It was an honor to know him and now it's an honor to have a piece of magic that my friend Jules loved to perform. BTW the DICE NOT GIMMICKED! The ROULETTE WHEEL NOT GIMMICKED! And the CARDS NOT GIMMICKED! Yes my friends THAT was Jules. Is it worth owning? You bet! (get it? casino---bet?) Good magic to all, Eric |

Oh and by the way the Becker's Casino Caper is very close to this. But with Jules version you are able to use a mixed deck of cards that the spectator mixes prior to cutting the deck. And (get this) you get 3 plastic cards to write your prediction down on that are named i.e. DICE etc.instead of rolling up a piece of paper.
If anyone has questions on this I'll be happy to help you. Good magic to all, Eric |
