A few weeks to go and great material is still coming out.. LIT by Dan White and Dan Hauss is a monster. Don't have it? GET IT!
Rich Ferguson ( http://www.richferguson.com ) is releasing a DVD through the Ellusionist folks December 3rd. I've followed Rich's career with interest and envy for years. This will be professional material. Meaning, it will look like real magic. Meaning...the stuff that pays the mortgage/rent/bills/makes a reputation. Here's a trailer: http://www.ellusionist.com/category/feat......guson.do Jeremy Hanrahan is releasing Entity. This I can say for sure rocks because Jeremy confided in me and let me perform it. Another reputation maker. Here's a Café thread ( with links to demos ): http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30

How can anyone mention Masuda's WOW. This is a novelty item. It's blunder of the year as far as I'm concerned.
Alright here goes (But I'm going to name 10): The Extractor The Silent Butler Extreme Burn The Gecko Power Word: Fall Tattoo Joe Come Fly With Me iThread The Modifier And Surfaced (I know... It's a DVD, but It has to go in here) |

I agree WOW isn't magical at all.
For me: Paul Wilson's THE FLY TRILOGY Pat Page's "Old Moore's Diary" Tagged (I haven't perfected it yet, tho') Tiger Wand (Porper's wand through cup) (OK, I'm prejudiced 'cuz it was my idea).

I've done a lot of presentational work on Trilogy: the potential of the trick is enormous especially when combined with John Kennedy's Power deck. Lots of people here voted for Luna: I don't understand who's effect that is.

Well, I guess I am one of those who would solidly recommend WoW! I am just an amateur magician -- perform for friends and colleagues. I judge tricks perhaps differently then professionals. For me I look for a big "WOW" factor (sorry for the unintended pun), something relatively easy to perform (standing up or sitting in an impromptu place -- so no mats or tables to lap things etc.) so I can concentrate on my story rather than mechanics and something easy to carry around with me. Also it needs to have a very quick reset time. WoW! hits the mark on all three and is a trick I carry around all the time.
Not sure when the rest of these came out, but for me big hits have been WoW, Prohibition, Heirloom, ESPerfect (becoming a big Nardi fan), and STS. Playing around with Extreme Burn which I think will be cool, but not showing it yet as I am still a bit clumsy with the move. Also picked up a Harry Loryanne DVD and Dear Mr. Fantasy which have been really fun -- although learning from a book as a rank amateur is tough and even DVD teaching seems a bit fast, but when I get them down big fun. Loryanne teaches a one hand coin vanish that is just a blast. If anyone has a recommendation for a matrix or coins across trick and/or dvd would love to hear it IF it fits my above criteria -- mainly I am not very good and need it either explained really well or a gimmick to help. Saw a reverse matrix that made me crazy, but figure it is likely beyond my skill set. Sorry if this got a bit off topic. |
