This appeared on USA Today's web site:

Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special, featuring the ventriloquist's stand-up, drew 6.6 million viewers Sunday, the largest audience in Comedy Central's history, and a repeat drew 3.9 million an hour later.

Congrats Jeff, thanks for keeping vent in the spotlight!

So funny...

But I can't repeat my favorite line of I would get in trouble.

First Special was the best.

Second was not as good

Third Christmas special was better.

But it's all good!!! - Nez

Good on Jeff for breaking Comedy Central's ratings.

I saw the special last night on TV also.

Was impressed on how passionate his audience is for him.

Wondered about the facial similarity of Guitar Guy also.

Guitar Guy was the LAST thing I would expect to see in a Jeff Dunham show.

But it worked big time.

Jeff Dunham shows have more "laughs per minute" than any other
show's I've ever seen.

Yea, JD!!!

Just picked up Jeff's new Christmas DVD. If you enjoyed his Christmas TV Special, I highly recommend getting the DVD. The program that aired on Comedy Central cut out a lot of the funniest moments of the show. The Christmas DVD is my favorite of the three Jeff has released to date.

I just saw the special on Candian Comedy Network. What a great show.

My only concern is that I have closed my Christmas Show with our version of Night Before Christmas for years and now people will think I stiole the idea from Jeff. Smile

Neale, I believe our audiences have short memories and often don't focus on the types of things that concern us entertainers. As a magician for example, I've never had anyone at my shows say that I stole a trick, a gag or concept from someone else -- even when I've used old gag lines or classics of magic. For that matter, I've seen other vents do similar storybook routines as Jeff did too. Of course, I'm speaking to the choir here, but if we make our routines our own and entertaining we're on safe ground.

Actually , Neale, this is not such a bad thing !

How many times have magicians heard the line "do you do that trick that (insert famous magician's name here) does on TV ?"

To many audience members, seeing someone perform a routine they have already seen on television makes you a higher quality performer, simply because you are capable of doing something the "famous" guys do.

I can hear your audience now..."I saw this guy Neale Bacon last night, and he did that thing like the guy on the Comedy Channel, you know the Night Before Chirstmas ? It was hysterical !"

With magic, the only people who gripe about this sort of thing are other magicians, not the average layperson in the audience. Since I am relatively new to the vent community, not sure how other vents deal with this kind of stuff. I do know that I have seen more than a few vents who use routines and stock lines that other vents use.

For the record, I too, do the Night Before Christmas on my holiday school and preschool shows, but it is done as a warm-fuzzy type of routine, with a mouse puppet, not a comedy piece.

:D

Add the nearly normal one who has done a Night Before Christmas for years...

Our bits off course were different from Mr. Dunham.

Saw a news blog that mentioned the following impressive statistics:

Dunham's sold-out North American tour is expected to gross $25 million.

Dunham’s holiday special earned a 4.2 Nielsen rating in its 9 p.m. debut, and in its 10 p.m. repeat won more than 60 percent of the viewers with a 2.6 share, drawing respective shares of 3.3 and 2.0 in the key Persons 18-49, Men 18-34 and Men 18-24 demographics and making it the No. 1 basic cable telecast in both ratings and delivery among total viewers.

The replay of Dunham’s previous Comedy Central special “Spark of Insanity” that preceded the Christmas show’s premiere also earned a 2.5 share.

Dunham also leapt into the Top 10 of the Top Independent Albums chart with his debut album, “Don’t Come Home For Christmas.” On iTunes, the CD entered the Comedy Album Chart at No. 1 and has held that position ever since. “Jingle Bombs” by Achmed the Dead Terrorist, one of Dunham’s most popular characters, tops the iTunes Comedy Singles Chart as well.

“A Very Special Christmas Special” topped Amazon.com’s comedy DVD sales and hit No. 2 on the overall DVD sales chart the week it aired on Comedy Central.
