I am just studying the Ring and Rope Book by Philip Reed Willmarth.
I have immense problems understanding some of the "simple penetrations" in chapter one. There is the ANVERDI TWO OFF and THE MELT THROGUH RING OFF which I simply can not reconstruct. Does anybody else have similar problems when reading the Book? And if, how did you solve the problem? Thanks, Rudi |

Hey, Rudi:
Not specific to this problem, but learning Magic in general: Supplement our learning with DVDs/videos. There were some things in The Encyclopedia of Rope Magic that I just didn't get, until later I watched Daryl perform/explain them on his DVD set. Then, it "clicked." Mike Close underscored this point in...I think it was a Magic magazine interview. Close said that written direction contains depth, but doesn't always adequately convey timing and location in the performing space. This is a weakness that's easily overcome with video instruction. Bottom line: Can you supplement your reading with video instruction? |

Thanks for your comment, Leland.
I agree with your statement about the visual supplement. My problem is that I would have to go through a lot of video material to find that specific penetrations, as I don't know where exactly I can find them on Video/DVD. I was just hoping that someone might have had the same problem, so I could speed up the process. Rudi |

Ring and rope moves can be hard to teach in a book alone. In my book, KOTR, I employ hundreds of photos, and the book comes with a companion DVD to help teach the two complete routines (one finger ring and cord, and the other 3 inch brass ring and rope).

Hi,
I have the Wilmarth book, and it is poorly written...you are not alone trying to understand it. My solution involved Eric DeCamps' routine along with Aldo Colombini's DVD from his website. Dug
