Hi Homer,
I saw your indepth knowledge of wine mentioned on one of these theads. If it wasn't a joke do you have a favorite region? Born and raised in Califronia I have a decidedly California palette. Cheers, Tom |

Hi Tom,
I love wine but I'm not knowledgeable in any way. My favorites tend to be California though, with my personal favorite being Duckhorn Merlot. Homer |

Saw 3 Ring at a local merchant but it didn't do it for me.
DUCKHORN! They make a great Savignon Blanc. I don't recall their Merlot, but I'm not a big Merlot fan. Now if we start talking Zins and Cabs... Homer, if you want to trade SF Goth clubs at 4 am for a day in The Wine Country on a guided tour... Cheers, Tom |

Just like magic, we all have different opinions and that's a good thing.
It's a Australian Shiraz (of course) that I think pairs nicely with food, especially spicy dishes, grilled food, and stews. Oh, and it rated 91 with both Robert Parker and Wine Spectator, although again, that's just an opinion too. |

Tom,
Duckhorn does make a Cab but they are more famous for their Merlot. My other favorite red wines are Mantanzas Creek Merlot, Groth, Chataneuf du Pape (french) and Zaneto Amarone. I have to find 3 rings! Is it easily available or do I have to order online? Anyone know of some real full-bodied, dry reds? (any price range) Homer |

Bully Hill out of the finger lakes in NY has some good wines. Some funny names, but these are actually names of the wines.
Love My Goat Space Shuttle Red chambourcin The winery was created by Walter Taylor of Taylor wines(sine 1878). When Coca Cola bought it Walter had a falling out. A lot more to the story, but it surrounds a saying of his "you can have my wine, but you can't get my goat". Even though there are some funny names the wine is very good. I know you guys don't have a lot of free time but if you get a chance to come up to the Finger lakes again (Dc was in Elmira, NY) you should go on a wine tour. We have about 30 vineyards in a fairly close proximity. If you like Spumante's I would recomend Mondoro from italy. Fairly cheap, but a nice flavor to it. Could always try mad dog 20/20 hahah!

Homer,
That is some respectable name dropping; Groth and Mantanzas Creek. I had some wonderful, very big Family Reserve Merlot from Charles Krug. I have been a fan of Amarone for a couple years now. Try a Caymus Cabernet Savignon for a big dry red. Having said that, I prefer jammy wines like a well aged Rombauer Zin. My take on "dry" may be different. Also check into Seavey Cab. They are small but make a wonderful Cab. djwow, My palette and Robert Parker's are very different. I find most of his recommendations useless. Cheers, Tom |

Do you prefer classic Cheeze Wiz or one of the herbal favorites, Chris?

When we had more money we went for the "good stuff" which was yellowtail If we found enough money in the couch we would always get tons of milwaukee's best or natty lite

Homer,
Stuart here. Hey, when I lived on the Oregon Coast, there was this amazing wine which is a blend...Michele and I have been trying those lately...it's called "WATERBROOK" Tough to find here, but when we find ourselves in the Pacific NW, we can find it fairly easily. She's going up at the end of October and typically brings back a few bottles...I'll send one over. As for three rings, I think I saw it here in Vegas at Cost Plus actually... |

There is a world wine market in Vegas ...anything available anywhere is available there. My parents found wines from everywhere and they are connoseurs .....they also belonged to several wine clubs, one of which sent them a case a month from different regeons.
Three Rings is available at several places in vegas. Mobius |

Hey Homer, are you a fan of reislings? The reason I'm asking is because in wine class the other week (yes...I'm taking a wine class for college credit) we had this really really sweet reisling that was so sweet it was like biting into a cupcake, yet it wasn't overbearing and I forgot what it was called. But holy crap it was delicious! I have the name in my notes but I'm not at my apartment right now. I'll PM you the name if you're interested.

I tend not to like the sweeter wines. But I'm sure I will eventually acquire a taste.
