Hi,
I am looking for more info on an effect that Terry Herbert performed on the latest KIDABRA dvd - Kidshow Superstar Vol 1 He mentions in the DVD that it was an Edwin item called Jam Jar Coins. Does anyone have more information about this? I did a search in the internet and didn't find anything. Is it in one of Edwin's books? Thanks in advance Cliff |

Good luck finding this. I think terry mentioned that he has a rare one that he owns and uses.

I know nothing about Terry Herbert, or Edwin, but perhaps you are looking for a book by Ed Wynn.

The old vaudville comedian Ed Wynn is the only one I ever heard of. So now that I know who Cliff is refering to what is he famous for?

Scroll down to Hooper, Edwin and learn about the "other" Ed Wynn. Most of his collegues simply called him by his first name.

Terry may well pop in here - I'll give him a shout tomorrow, by 'phone.
Al, I wouldn't worry if I were you. EDWIN HOOPER and SUPREME MAGIC are long gone. His props continue and are legends in the halls of children's entertainment. Not only here in the UK, but in the States as well - ask Bruce Amato. Dave

What's the effect of Jam Jar Coins?

Exactly. Al, if you ever attend a magic auction and see a Supreme effect on the block, it is a collector's item. The best analogue I can give you is that Edwin Hooper's Supreme Magic was the Wolf Magic designer of his day.
Extremely creative. Highest quality. Superior presentation. Lasting value. As for Ed Wynn - one of my most favorite people of all time; if not THE favorite. He lived to create smiles. His featured Twilight Zone episode is one of my all time series favorites.

I wonder if the Jam Jar Coins is the effect Terry did at the recent Eastbourne convention? Basically, he tossed the coins from a distance, or had members of the audience toss coins into a chalice. You could hear them drop, and there appeared to be no connection ... spec tossed the "coin" (invisibly, of course, and you heard it arrive in the metal jar..
Very good effect, and I was well impressed..! He was the MC, and the best part of the show - imho. Regards, DCB

DCB - yep that's the one
I emailed Terry and he told me that the routine was based on a routine he created for a trick put out by Edwin of Supreme magic (called Jam Jar Coins) which in fact was originated by Pat Page. The trick he performed on the DVD was a one off made by Anverdi that he had modified. I have been searching the web and the closest I have found (not in looks but in workings) is the Silver Oydssey II by Collectors Workshop as you are in control of when the coins "land". There is a version called "Flying Fifties" by John Blake but upi aren't in control of when the coins penetrate. Cliff |

I see, it's an remote-control version of "Copentro." I found a clip of Copentro on YouTube, just for comparison.

May I take this opportunity to clarify one or two things. Jam Jar coins was trick put out by Supreme but originated by Pat Page which consisted of an empty glass or jar in a bag held by the performer. The spectator threw an invisable coin (mimed) and it was heard to clink into the glass. After four coins had been thrown, the glass was taken out of the bag and the coins tipped out. I performed this for many years and the routine I used is similar to the one I performed on the DVD at Kidabra last year.It is basically a coins in glass routine of which there have been several versions. The first one I believe was invented and sold by the late Jack Hughes a british dealer and I see it is now refered to as Copentro although I ever knew it as Coins in Glass. As Cliff says the version I performed is remote controlled made originally by the dutch dealer the late Anverdi. I had it completely modified with a Harry Potter theme. To my knowledge it is a one off although as mentioned earlier there are several versions of the same trick. I hope this helps

Just chanced across this thread so I appreciate that it probably does not help the OP. Nevertheless, for the sake of completeness...
Terry Herbert is right to credit Pat Page with the origination of the Supreme effect, Jam Jar Coins. Pat Page called it Moneybag. Currently you can find it here: https://patrickpagemagic.co.uk/product/moneybag/ The effect is also written up in the excellent book, Page By Page. I recommend that wholeheartedly... Absolutely packed with direct, practical magic, and Mr. Page explains how Supreme came to be selling his effect.
