Just noticed that this thread doesn't have the link to Christopher Lyle's most awesome performance of the Mighty Mini. It blows my mind every time I watch it.

I ordered mine today! I am unsure of how well it will work for me due to some performance limitations....(I perform from wheelchair)... However, after speaking to some of those here at the Café and to Gimpy I decided to jump in. If anyone has any performance tips that may be of help for a sit done close up performance I would be grateful for a PM.... I would love to get Gimpys tray but in my situation there really wouldn't be a need for a tray and I am suspect that it would just add suspicion in my case...however, perhaps I am missing something with regard to that....I love the looks of it!
I appreciate any and all suggestions... I am a huge fan of this effect and really want to be able to get as much out of it as possible. Many thanks! bk |

Rarely do I sell new magic that is not mine. Gimpy's Mighty Mini Light and Heavy Chest will be an exception. It will be on my web site shortly. It is one GREAT prop. I can't say enough about it. This is not a sales pitch for me. Buy it directly from Gimpy. He deserves to be rewarded for this fine prop.

This is a great item! Gimpys' craftsmanship is wonderful and the effect itself packs a real punch!
I have only performed it for family at this point...However, as most of us know, they can be the most difficult in so many ways.... I can honestly say when my daughter (20) was able to lift this after not being able to budge it, after being able to lift it freely....the look of shock on her face is exactly why I love doing this.... She was truly amazed. I am so looking forward to working the "mighty mini" into my close up routine. One of the great things about this is... there's really nothing to it which lets you totally concentrate on your presentation. I was surprised at how easily it sets. I also had a few questions for Gimpy before and after my purchase and he has been such a pleasure to deal with....Not only did he answer my questions, he did so, sometimes, within minutes. I don't know him personally but I can tell he's the kind of person I wish I did know better. All my best, Bobby |

I have never had a L/H chest but the mighty mini has a charm about it that is attracting my hand to my wallet. I might not win the battle...

Guys, if you're on the fence to get this..
I feel very sorry for you. Because you will be cracking open your wallet soon, worth every penny though! High quality wooden box, brass accents, easy to set mechanism, the sky is the limit on how you want to present it. Gimpy's Mighty Mini is a great investment. (I recommend you buy it direct from him as he provides great customer service and packages your box with love, it shows.) :) Take care, Doug L. *The handles pop off for a comedic presentation. Yet, allow the performer to grasp the box by the handles to move it from place to place.* Top handle (best picture) No handles Side handles (optional accessory)

Thanks for all the kind words. Keep in mind if you did purchase a mighty mini from one of our dealers instead of direct. I would still be happy to help you with any questions.

Anyone have audience performance experience using the magnetic handle(s) in conjunction with the effect?
The two times I've performed it for friends, each one, after "tearing" the handle off the chest, quickly realized that a magnet was involved. Both immediately leaped to the conclusion and explained away the effect (to their satisfaction) that the chest was held down by a magnet. Seems to me using the handles leads spectators to suspect magnetic force. |

Well since the box dosent use magnets for the heavy effect I suppose you have fooled them. If you are working on a wood or plastic surface that should dismiss the use of magnets. I also make a performance tray that is examinable and solid wood. Or you could go with the larger boxes and let them inspect the inside.
It is a real strech to think that a magnet is used. It would need to be some type of remote electro magnet set on solid steel. This may be why this effect has been a bit rare to see since Houdin in the mid 1800s. Houdins method also used a table that was several hundred pounds...not very practical today. Gimpy

I haven’t purchased a Mighty Mimi yet but am seriously considering it! Instead of using a wooden tray , which may be suspicious to the spectators, I am thinking of using a clear piece of ¾ inch Lexan to place the box on. This may even be less suspicious then a table top, no place for hiding anything and completely eliminates the idea of magnetism!! Spectators are smart enough to know that steel or some other hidden mechanism can be hidden within a wood table top. I think just “fooling” them is short changing this illusion. To be truly mystifying the spectators must not suspect (correctly or incorrectly) a solution!

Just finishing some thoughts from my post above. The reason Houdin had success was that electromagnetism was unknown at that time. Today it is common knowledge, and I believe would be the first solution that spectators would come up with. In their minds the practicability of using magnetism is not a consideration. They will not think that deeply, they will just come to the conclusion "He is just using magnets". I think to elevate this trick to more then a puzzle the idea of magnetism has to be eliminated.

I think it's best to let them wonder what could be making the person so weak. Focus on the person not the box. Best, Doug L.

It was NEVER meant to be a moment of amazement...but always done a a joke, a bit, a line, an aside. If done properly, It will bring down the house. It's very obviouis that the handles are held on with magnets once they break off...I always admit during the performance after they break off, I say something like, "arn't magnets fun!" The thing is, nobody ever suspects the box is held to the table with magnets b/c of how I present it. The spectator examines the table, they examine box. WHAT! What did I say? Uh Oh.... That's right Katz and Kittenz...the presentation that you see me perform on the offical demo is NOT my full presentation. You didn't think I was going to give away ALL of my ideas did you? (hehehehe). When I perform it, the spectator's not only examine the table, but I also let them FULLY EXAMINE the box...inside and out. How do I do this while keeping it deceptive? Hmmmm....????? Some things I'll keep a secret. Think outside the "box" (pun intended) and you'll think of ways to do the impossible! The MM hands down is the Light Heavy Chest of the future. They should NEVER be made again b/c nobody will ever top Gimpys work! He's THE MASTER and an all around great guy. Christopher Gimpy's Magic Offical Product .Whore.
