What's funny is if there really was a couch climber 2000 people would still line up to buy it just so they could be lazy in comfort. lol

Wait just second here let me catch up. You guys are telling me that I and not some elected politician is responsible for my own future?
You are telling me that if I am not making money that all I have to do is get up off my hind parts and simply let people know and have a good product and I will have work? That sounds just crazy enough to work!

I am a stay-at-home dad with two incomes. One is magic, the other is teaching speech and group dynamics college courses. Last year the greater part of my income was magic. This fall I was offered extra teaching just as the birthday parties fell off. My courses grow because I teach at a career college here in Michigan, meaning a place where people go to get new careers in a state where lots of people need them.
My point? As a part-timer I use a technique called "leapfrogging." I take a little spending money to promote the magic and bingo, the magic becomes income. A magic client recommends me to teach college, and the courses become good income. The courses help me plan corporate seminars I want to add to my magic, as I slowly phase out the demanding but lower paid birthday parties. In other words, one good strategy is to have more than one income stream, especially if you are like me and have many interests. |

I have noticed that most people whine on the way to the poor house. Is that a coincidence? I wonder.

Kyle how true. LOL.
I will have to test the theory though of getting up and trying to market myself. Using more agressive techniques and not whining all the time about who is in charge of the country, and what CEO's make. I am skeptical mind you as we all know it is some elected official who is in charge of what we all make. I will report back with the results.

Hehehehe Yeah please let us know how that works out for you danny. I want to know the reason for our all lack of success must ride on someelse. I mean success can;t possibly be controlled by me and my own ability. I mean that would just be crazy. I have to blame someone for our laziness. lol

Alright since last being here I tried the idea of doing "work" for an entire hour. Not all at once mind you, but an hour no less.
You will notice how I am still not on the TV, and it is all everyone else's fault. I am going back to blaming the president, quoting dumb prophet of doom sayings, and complaining online about my lack of success. It is far easier. TAKE THAT HARD WORK!!!!!! I'll send you chumps a post card from the big time.

Don't you think we are in a recession proof business? When people have problems, there is all the more need for entertainment. The only better business to be in at times like these is the liquor business.
 Seriously, why not siege the opportunity to INCREASE your business in these troubled economic times?

Cupie doll? Where did the nice big stuffed bears go Dean? lol Hey Danny. A WHOLE HOUR!!?? Man that must have been tough. I sure hope you took frequent breaks and rested on the "couch of laziness" for at least 10 mins for every 5 minutes of actual work. =)
In all seriousness, we are in a way not in a recession proof business. Let me explain my answer. We are IF one is actively involved in their own marketing and taking direct action towards their own success. But recession or not, if you are not willing to get your butt off the couch, you are never going to succeed. No matter what the economy and culture and times are doing, you must take action always towards your own sucess and that means changing with the times, tracking results and adapting to situations. Ken:
I don't know if anything is totally recession proof. We're sort of in uncharterd waters right now. I guess we'll find out in the next 6-18 months. And, if some were having a difficult time now or the immediate future, do you think they would admit it on the Magic Café? I would say, "probably not." Look I'm all for thinking "happy thoughts" and pushing forwward with your magic marketing efforts. Right now, I'm doing well. I took real action after this summer and I'm seeing great results. Still, no matter how I slice it or dice it, my birthday party business is WAY DOWN. I'm still working on bringing those numbers up again, but it's a real challange. It's not like the old easy days. I also feel that you can't be oblivious to this global financial mess and believe this isn't going to impact you and your busines. . . somehow. This is like a tidal wave and it's just starting. I'm not sure we'll see or truly feel the impact for another few weeks or months. I know I lost about $15,000 last week. I'm not too happy about that. Now multiply that by millions of people. Some magic markets will probably do better than others. Some regions of the US will probably do better than others. Just strap on the old seat belt, boys, because we're about to take a wild ride on a magical roller coaster. |

My birthday business was way down too, so I switched to another market and discovered a market that pays more and that I like better.

My glass is niether half full, nor half empty. I am working a lot harder for about the same number of jobs, so I can complain about how tough times are if I so desire, but to say that we are in a recession proof business is a big joke. "When the going gets tough the tough get going", but I refuse to live in denial while I'm working my butt off to get work. Sure you have to work harder to make ends meet, but lets all wake up and smell the coffee too.

Al, I have to agree about the "recession proof" business part. (Oh and if we were NOT in a recession before, by any standard you care to apply we are probably going to be in one pretty quick LOL!)
I may even agree it is not as easy as it once was. I remain unconvinced it is as bad as everyone says it is though. I mean one candidate HAS to claim horrible things, otherwise why vote for him LOL? I am just not sure we all agree on whose fault it is you have less work.
