Has anyone found a source for really reliable bands? I recall someone putting out a coin with bands that were identified as “never-break” or something like that, but have not been able to find these. I’d definitely go back to doing this routine if I could find bands I could be confident in.

Search for posts by Café member inigmntoya about replacing the bands. The material he uses is stretch magic thread and he had a link to his instructions if I remember correctly.

Does the 'new' Covergirl clean bottle work for this effect? Anyone out there on this forum anymore? https://i.pinimg.com/originals/34/ef/73/......f3bd.jpg

I have the 'new" Covergirl clean bottle, and have not been able to get the quarter or half dollar out of the bottle without it breaking apart. I have a Kueppers quarter, and an Empire Half Dollar.

With the quarter, it can lay down flat in the neck. So I need to be careful in turning the bottle upside down to get it into the position for the tweezers, or it will lay down flat.

Thank you KC for the info. I'll keep an eye out for suitable bottles and post back if I find something..

I was able to get the old version of the Cover Girl Clean bottle off of ebay for around the retail price.
Unfortunately, while I was sanding the inside so the folding quarter could fit, I accidentally knocked the bottle off the counter and it broke.

Hey Wravyn - just wanted to say thank you for pointing me to the post from inigmntoya. I found the one you were referring to, and it has given me new hope to start performing this routine again. I know we see more posts than we’d like at times that devolve into arguments, but input like this is what makes the Magic Café so priceless!

The bottle Lonnie Chevrie uses are either
Signal mouth wash
Or
Scope mouth wash
They both use similar bottles. Look for either vintage glass mouth wash bottle on eBay and you can low ball these recycle items
I believe 3oz is the right size but not sure

I also used
Windsor Newton oil medium bottles. Because I oil paint I already have them, look up empty bottles they usually come in a fancy heavy duty glass bottle that fits bothe type of half dollar , I agree wave cut is easier to handle

Hope this helps

I have managed to grind (Dremel) the opening of a Cover Girl bottle to allow me to use a quarter, but I also came across an antique shaker (Pepper? Oil?) with a wide enough neck and a silver cap long enough to hide a folded coin. A little bit of foil covers the holes from inside. Yippee!!
