I have been getting emails from wrestling fans asking if I know anything about a new character in the WWE called Kizarny. He is apparently a recasting of one of their wrestlers as a carny character and he does carny speak, "the secret language of the carnival."
Beazig deazeal. If we are lucky, Kizarny will get a cage match with John Strong Jr. |

I heard he was actually someone who had performed or at least worked in the circus for a bit.....if you really think about it, I could see wwe wrestling as more theater than athletics... although, what an interesting transition.....

When I was young (maybe 12 - in the early 60's) I was a rasslin' fan, and I distinctly remember reading in a wrestling magazine a wrestler's account of a match [and this little bit is all I recall]:
"One of the [whatever] Brothers came at me and got ready for a flying kick and said 'deazuck!' and that's all I remember till I came to in the dressing room. When he came in I shouted at him 'dammit, I DON'T SPEAK CARNY!' |

I saw that match...actually my wife noticed he was talking carnie as I was just passively watching. Here is the scoop on him...
http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/pr......rny.html I've also held a tent stake while John Strong swung the sledge hammer...he is more powerful than he looks (and he looks powerful). I got fifty bucks on John Strong in that match. |

Don't know about this guy, but I read in this article (link bellow) that carny is spoken by many in the wrestling industry. I always assumed there was some overlap, but maybe just because Chris Christ used to be involved in wrestling.
http://muse.jhu.edu/login?uri=/journals/......sell.pdf Either way I suppose it could be kinda cool to have a carny character in the WWE, depending on how he's portrayed. My roller derby name is "Carny Power" - it's just a character, a fantasy, and I mean no disrespect. Some girls are Russian spies (Ivanna Smackabitch), some are ninjas (Gogo Atari), some are celebrity parodies (Smashalina Jolie), I'm the "carny" one. I tried to be "Robin Marks" but gave up because no one got the joke - plus there was already a "Robin Banks" in Tucson |

WWE contacted me about using some Cheeky Monkey performers as background in a vignette about Ciezarny (as spelled in the e-mail).
The whole deal seemed a bit. . .rushed (you can PM if you want details). The deal is that he is supposed to know how to do some stunts, like bending an iron bar, electric chair, human dartboard and animal traps. Ultimately, they changed venue a couple days before the shoot, so we were not involved.

Stephon, sounds like the exact same experience I had with them, it was all very last minute and no real details could be nailed down. From what I was told he used to be a performer with Carnival Diablo. PM or call me when you ahve a chance I'm just curious if the same stuff happened with you that they tried to "discuss" with me for OCSS performers.

I trained for a very short time, many years ago, to become a wrestler. The guy who trained me was a bit of a professional wrestling historian, he explained that most modern professional wrestling originated on the carnival midways.
The first paragraph of this article explains a little bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch_wrestling A lot of the old timers in the wrestling business were trained by old carnival wrestlers. I've heard stories of old carnival wrestlers, who would take on all comers, leaving their opponents with broken bones in a matter of minutes. The promoters rarely would pay out rewards. Many customs in modern pro wrestling still reflect a background in carnival life. Many wrestlers greet other workers with a certain handshake, and wrestlers still refer to most fans as marks. Some very old wrestlers still call spots in ring in carny. here is a link to a promo of the guy kizarny. He looks pretty awful, to be honest I don't really have much interest in modern wrestling anymore, It looks like poobah is in this guys promo for a split second though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIXjlLeseYI |

Or some butchered version? Hmm, I didn't think it was that widely known. Brett.

And, as in the carny world, there are plenty of terms unique to the rasslin' business. You can see a very good selection HERE on Wikipedia. Actually, now that I look closely, theree's not a lot of overlap shown on that page, but carny is certainly spoken in the ring. And if anyone can come up with a consistent spelling, I'd be grateful (I don't like mine any more than any others I've seen). |

Supposedly it isn't to be written, only spoken.

Alright, once again, I'm confused--I thought the pattern with ciazarn was to insert the. . .verbal gaff(?) before each vowel sound. The wiki entry says between syllables. Kizarny did it before the first vowel.
What's the rule?

I learned "Coney Island" carny from Marie Roberts.
It's hard to explain, but be best way to describe it is between syllables.

And there are two variations on carny speak. One is to add an "ee-aa" after the intial consonant and then add on a 'z' to the rest of the syllable. My name would be Te-a-zodd Re-a-zobbins. Some carnies put in the "ee-aa-z" on all syllables: Te-a-zodd Re-a-zob-be-a-zins. If a word starts with a vowel, the "ee-aa-z" is added in at the front of the word. The-a-zis e-a-zis he-a-zow e-a-zi le-a-zearned e-a-zi. |

Kizarny misses on another point...his teeth are way too good.
A lifetime of cotton candy and other carny food leaves a real carny with rotted teeth or dentures. Kizarny's teeth are way too good. A real carny has teeth more like the little fellow in Todd Robbin's pic. |

Speaking of "rasslin" check out the over looked movie with Jack Black "Nacho Libre" I thought it was a very funny and innocent little film. Lots of good slapstick.

Mota...and the fire eating and the glass muching, metal biting....
My dentist has so much to say to me about those every time I go in. I know many carnies who's teeth haven't survived those, irregardless of diet.

Yes Kizarney is the Strongman from my show Carnival Diablo.
He has worked with me since 2003 and is a great Sideshow performer in his own right. In my show he is called SINN. I trained him and helped develope his character for my Sideshow. He is a great wrestler with a strong background in wrestling history... this guy really knows his stuff. I wish him all of the luck in the world with his stint with WWE and will employ him again when he finishes his contract. I know that a career in wrestling only lasts for a few years and then Macmahon moves on and SINN knows he has a place in the world of Sideshow when he retires from Wrestling.
