I am starting to promote a service to local bars and restaurants to do 2 hours of strolling magic on a particular night. How much is an acceptable fee to charge?
Seems to me that death is just natures way of telling us to SLOW DOWN!

I dunno! How much is 2 hours of your time worth?
But seriously, I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses on this one. Restaurant - could be cost of an average meal, per hour. Bar / Lounge - you may have to come up with a figure on your own. Or do some investigative work and find out what the most popular mixed drinks are in that locale and then charge the price of the liquor bottle, per hour. Just some random thoughts. Cheers!

Unless it's a big one, or a tourist one with a high turnover, it is hard to make good $$ at a restaurant. What to charge depends on your market. Check to see what other artists and performers. Even what the band gets can give you some idea. Then again, if you are doing it for experience or to get referrals, that's another story.

I think you need to ask yourself:
"How much does this restaurant is able to pay for this kind of service?" "How much would I pay if I was the owner of the restaurant"? And also, I think it depends greatly in how many hours a week are you going to work in that restaurant and for how long. I think something like this may work good for you.I charge this in Spain, it may be worth more in your country. 1 hour a week = 40 euros 2 hours a week = 70 euros 3 hours a week or more = 30 euros an hour Just my 2 cents cheers

I live in a small town (population 25,000) and I've been offered $25.00 per hour to work a Red, Hot, and Blue (a big restuarant chain in the south).
Now that is about all this market can bear. That's about the cost of one dinner with dessert and 2 mixed drinks/hour. Unfortunately we don't have any JUST bars in our little burg. My advice would be to become a magic bartender if you want to work that venue. For the best advice on that subject I'd go with Doc Eason's 3 tape set. Hope this helps, Doug

magicalmischief,
Here's a link to past articles written by Scott Guinn in the online magazine Visions. Scott writes a monthly section called Pro-Files where he dicsusses the important aspects (both big and small) of being a successful magician. http://www.online-visions.com/pro-files/index.html The ninth article entitled "Rates of Interest" touch upon the topic you're looking for. However, may I suggest that we all scroll down to the bottom of the link and read the first few articles. His advice is gold! I want to thnk Scott for his words of wisdom and kindness to share them with all of us. nalu |
