Hello,
I am expecting to get Carneycopia in the mail in the next few days. I've noticed that a lot of people on this forum rate it in their top five magic books. Would any of you care to share some of your personal favorite effects or highlights from the book? P.S., after I read it I can provide my own imput as well |

Sanverted it a great little packet trick with the 4 aces. There are other tricks in the book that are more powerful or magical, but Sanverted is a lot of fun to perform, especially if you already do Daley's Last Trick or some variant thereof.

His coins and cylinder is something that I am working on and find to be a beautiful effect. I saw him perform it on his Up Close and Far Away video and bought the book just for that effect. His essays are well thought out and really cause you to think about your magic. Anything that John puts out is Class "A" material.

I agree that sanverted is very cool. I have reworked the original count and the finger placement to make this more practical "for me".
I have been doing this since the book came out and am surprised to have never seen anyone else do it. Glad to hear Paul likes it too! |

Cylinder & coins, John's thoughts on sponge balls and unscrutable are my favorites to perform!

Thanks for the highlights, everybody. I'm sure I'll be reading it cover to cover, but it's fun to see what other people like the best.
I was expecting it to come on Wednesday or Thursday, but I'm still waiting for it to arrive. Maybe today... |

Are the "Secrets" about stage magic mostly? I'm mainly a close-up and walk araound performer and I heard lots of positive opinions about the book. Is the close-up performer sure to benefit from this book?
Thanks a lot, Pawel |

There's close and stage material. But, you're buying the book because it's Carney! You're buying the book because of the insight and essays between its covers.

Fruit Cup is really good. I am still in the process of reading it and it is really all great stuff, but that one I really liked. There will most likely be other REALLY good ones to add when I get further into the book.

Carney is a genius. I haven't read the whole book yet, but here are the effects that I have learned and love so far:
Current Classic Poor Man's Card Manipulation Australian Aces Wired Triumph Rip-off Sanverted Here are more effects that I haven't learned yet but I will soon because they are too good to pass up: Soft Glass Chill Pack Ethereal Pack Half Dollars in the Mist The Logical Bill Trick Everywhere, Nowhere, and on your face. I'll have to learn Cylinder & Coins also but I don't have the necessary gaffs yet. Actually, EVERYTHING in this book is worthy of your study. Even if you are not going to use a certain effect you should at least read through it to see how Carney structures it. Also, don't forget to read the essays at the front of the book. You should read them before you read the effects. If you don't then you're gonna miss the whole point of the book. Have fun!

Predictable Surprise & Carney's sponge ball routine(I forget the name, but it's in the book.) Carney is a cut above the rest.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but how would you classify the difficulty level of Carneycopia? I've seen it recommended numerous times and am very interested.
Thanks. |

This is another book like Stars of Magic and Smoke and Mirrors. It's literally PACKED with EXTREMELY cool, practical effects. Here's what I really like:
Current Classic Chill Pack/Predictable Surprise/Straggler/Final Trace (There's a whole set of card magic right there that logically blends from one effect to the last.) Soft Glass (perfect dinner trick) Inscrutable Fruit Cup Ethereal Pack Suicide Match The Logical Bill Trick Everywhere, Nowhere and On Your Face |

I would say that Carneycopia is a better buy if you are only interested in good performable material, my favourite effects from Carneycopia are Sanverted (absolutely brilliant), Fruit Cup, and half's in the Mist (i think that is what it is called)!
The Book of Secrets is brilliant and is by far a better book, as it is so modern in it's aproach to teaching. Both of them are brilliant and worth every penny, I look forward to getting the new DVD's! Owen |

The last trick in "Carneycopia" is brilliant and is the most commerical effect in the entire book in my opinion (at least for my performing persona). Check out "The Thirteenth Victim."
Regards, Larry D. P.S. - I attended Carney's lecture in D.C. last night and it was very good. |

I'll disagree that Book of Secrets is far better. Carneycopia has much more material and it's all good. I think Book of Secrets is more of a theory book (and a great one at that)

I think Fruit Cup is a very commercial effect.
The Logical Bill Trick is also very good. And of course Sanverted, simple and direct. These are my favourites, but actually there isn't a bad trick in the book.
