I know a guy who's fairly new to magic. He's got some good chops on him and in time could be a very good magician. He has a huge problem with intimidation though. That's not uncommon but his real issue is when he performs for attractive woman. He gets kind of tongue tied and of course this makes the nervousness and the shakes even worse.

I have an idea to help him with this. I haven't done it yet but I think it'll work. I know you'll laugh at this but I'm going to take him to a topless bar. Smile

There's a new one in my area and I went there the first week they opened to check the place out. I of course ended up doing some magic there that night.

I'm thinking that if my friend can get past his intimidation and perform for an attractive woman who's naked then one wearing clothes will be a snap. Although I'm level headed enough to know that if a girl is flirting it can still intimidate a guy no matter if they are wearing clothes or not. Smile

I know it might seem silly but I'm seriously thinking about giving it a try. I won't tell him this of course. We'll just get together and hang out and "end up" at that bar.

What do you think of the idea?

Ron, I read the first couple of lines and was going to say "take him to a topless bar". lol. Even if it doesn't help, you both get to go to...a topless bar.

He can do signed card to g-string.

A+ for ingenuity, I'll give you that.

My first instinct was that this is a bad idea, that it will only help the guy interact with strippers. That said, it might work. Who the hell knows?

Seems a good idea me. Let us know when the video is up on your web site. Smile
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Tell him to be sure not to use a top or bottom palm, a double lift, a pass, or an out jog. Smile

I have never had problems with performing for woman, naked or otherwise. The flirting helps. If he can flirt with someone that will flirt back because she is paid to, then he should have no problem with doing that with one that is just paying to see some magic.

Now this flirting is of course harmless. I am not saying he'll end up with dates. If he does and the girl is with someone, then the only thing he'll get is a punch in the nose.

But, if you do it in the context of the situation, the guys don't seem to mind. I have done this and got away with it. Just don't stare at her... um... well... her package.

Oh, I've performed in many strip bar. In fact I'm probably one of the few guy who have been hired by the strippers. Smile I've been hired a couple of times to teach them to do a magic act for them to do in their "Show girl of the year" contest. So I helped then put together their act for the talent part.

When I went to this topless bar I talked about in the opening post I was surprised at how many of the girls I knew. A couple went to school with me and some I just knew from around town but didn't know this was their "line of work".

So if I take my friend there I'll be casual about it.

I was called to perform at three different ones. One time was this year.

Another idea I can think of is to take him to a restaurnt. Have him perform a short trick with little patter to a beautiful waitress. If he still feels comfortable, show more waitresses. When he feels relaxed, extend to a longer trick. Once he has that part down packed, try the previous inside of a bar or night club.

It might take several weeks, but it will help master the plan.

Can I go?

OR, dare him to walk down the street during lunch hour naked. He'll never be nervous about anything again.

Just tell him to strike up a conversation with every attractive women he meets. Small talk, compliments and the like (he's not asking for a date). I'm one of those guys who can walk up to anybody and strike up a conversation.
When Andie MacDowell walked into a local coffee house. Patrick (my favorite barista) was tongue tied. I joked, "There are better uses for your tongue Pat." She laughed. Patrick relaxed because he saw that she wasn't just a paper doll.
