Just purchased an Ellis Ring. I bought it used, second hand, didn't come with any instructions. Not sure what brand it is, seems good quality, a little small (quarter sized)
Anybody have any good routines they can recommend with this? |

Use it to magically put it on their thumb!!!
Put it on their thumb and cover it with a silk. Take it off their thumb (wink). Show it to them and make it disappear (your favorite method). Pull off the silk and a miracle has happened! Just remember, BE BOLD!
Magically,

Check out Barrie Richardson's Theatre of the Mind book. It has a routine in which the ring is moved under the cover of a handkerchief off the neck of a bottle, and then jumps back on. I think the spectator may put his hand on the bottle once the ring is removed. He uses a theme of the power of suggestion.

In the routine where you put it over their thumb and then cover it with a handkerchief, reach under and slide the gimmick up and off and then place it on top of the handkerchief over the covered thumb. In one quick motion reach down and grab the hankie, palming the gimmick, swish the hankie away and the ring will appear to have passed through the hankie and be back on their thumb.

Check out the Art of Close-up Magic (not sure which volume) for a great routine with the Jardine-Ellis ring, shoelace and a finger ring (the finger ring comes in at the end). It is a great routine that always played well for me.
Now if I can only find my ellis ring...... Jason |

I have a routine in my book, "Magishing My Way" that is a bit off the beaten path. It is kind of a cups and balls routine/ring and string routine/ Ellis routine all rolled into one. It has played very well for me.

Years ago, British publication, Routines with the Ellis Ring (I believe) gave a wonderful 3 phase routine. Even the ring was gimmicked, but invisible!.
Wish I could recall the title. Probably 1970 at the latest. MartyK |

J. G Thompson's Top Secrets of Magic has a full routine, but if you want side splitting comedy, check out Scott Guinn's routine. It's very funny and well worth the effort to learn.
If the ring is flat and looks like a washer, it is part of a set called amazing washers. Made in Japan in the 60's. I have an original set and one with the chrome plating removed. I carry my original set in my wallet. A flat Ellis ring is a very nice thing. If the ring is round (not flat) and in good shape, and the size of a quarter, I may be interested in buying it.
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.
