What stuff do we talk about here that is not at least 40 years old?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

We may talk for example on how-to beat the roulette using a laser system. That's the most recent stuff I know about crooked gambling.

Is that kind of "cheating" an up to date method?
I would tend to think that this kind of cheating is just a rehash of old methods with an up to date technology. After all, that kind of electronic transmitting devices for cheating is as old as the raise of electronic components (which is around more than 50 years ago).
Up to date cheating with nothing to do with 40 years old stuff would be maybe concern those modern way of gambling which are online gambling (poker, casino games...), casino devices like automatic shufflers, electronic poker tables....

The refined techniques of the modern cheat are a far cry from the crude ones utilized by Elijah Skaggs and his carefully schooled clan of sharpers who roamed the gambling arenas of frontier saloons in the mid 1800's or the three-card monte knaves such as George or Canada Bill Jones of the riverboat era The novel (Fleming, 1959) and the 1968 trial over the Los Angeles Friar's Club cheating scandal illustrates the degree to which elaborate electronic and optical equipment have been adapted to modern gambling trickery.

Card games have been the most readily adapted to ruthless cheating techniques with craps utilizing trick dice (e.g. loaded, hollowed out, shaved or beveled, magnetized, etc.) running a close second. Innumerable books are readily available which describe and teach time-honored card sharper sleight of hand techniques (e.g. second dealing, bottom dealing, stacking, stripping, etc)

The mail order sale of gambling cheating equipment is a multimillion dollar industry (Morehead, 1950) A wide variety of crooked gambling devices are available on the open market and include such items as marked decks of cards, card decks with strippers, small reflective specially tinted contact lenses for reading ink and phosphorescent ink-marked cards, minute fingernail insert card cutters and markers, shirt sleeve inserted card hold out machines and cold deck magnetic belts and aprons to effect loaded dice, remote control electronic and magnetic equipment for gambling wheels and crap tables, battery operated radio cue prompters by which one cardplayer can transmit his hand in code to another gambler via small electric shocks or hearing device beeps.

(U.S. Senate Hearings, 1967)

Yep I was thinking, after reading this, that this is still the stuff we talk about here today, and all that was 40 or more years ago.

The transmitter scam was also recently done not only with chess, but with backgammon.

And of course, low lying cameras were also used to see dealer hole cards in blackjack.

I am waiting for a Star Trek transporter technology to switch cards or a machine to freeze time for all people except for the owner of the machine Smile

True mental telepathy is also fun.

On a serious note: You are correct about old winning strategies. What has changed is not the strategy....but, the actual technique used to implement the strategy is what is being modernized using technology.

As a matter of fact, some technology is taking a step backwards...For example, there are very few good dice guys around when compared to the old timers. I have seen some Chinese stuff and it is pretty bad.

Reproduction is still accomplished by age old methods, at least most of the time. Recent developments made it possible to use a high tech approach, but mostly the old fashioned way seems to be the prefered one. Old and established does not necessarily mean it is not working to most peoples satisfaction.
