Its that simple.
I prefer 2. for my money, the best film ever. (certainly the best sequel, the second best being "empire strikes back", but I'm getting off my own topic...)

I liked Scarface a lot better than the Godfather movies but that's not the question you asked. I can't remember if I liked 1 or 2 as it's been a while since I sat down and watched the Godfather. I just remember covering my head and saying Yuck at the horse ...ewww you know that scene! I hated that. Was that in 1 or 2?

I found #2 to be a richer film, but you couldn't have #2 without #1.

Never seen either, I've fallen asleep 3 times during Godfather 1. Now, the REAL debate should be Weekend at Bernie's 1, or 2?

I too fall asleep during the Godfather, I think mostly because I've never gotten a chance to see it from the beginning. Oh and Weekend at Bernie's 1 was the better of the two films. I felt the message being conveyed was much clearer in the first film.

Godfather One. I'm not keen on franchised movies. The only time I've ever liked subsequent films was with The Lord of the Rings; it was perfect.

I love all 3 Godfathers but if made to choose between 1 and 2 I'll say 2! Both the Bernie's are great!
Now the Friday the 13th's, it's a toss up between 1,8, 23, 47,51,62 and 103! 
Chrystal, You ROCK! I just don't know of many women that liked Scarface! I'm a HUGE Pacino fan and the only 2 flicks of his I didn't care for were "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Donnie Brasco"! Top 3 Pacino films IMO are "Scarface", "Devil's Advocate" and "Two for the Money"! Sorry bout the slight derail, Mick |

An interesting bit of trivia is that Godfather 1 and 2 are the only movies in motion picture history where both the original movie and it's sequel were able to garner the academy award for best picture in the years they were released.
That says a lot for the quality of both.

Godfather #2! The flash backs to how it all started, exposed the mindset of the men behind the Mafia.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

Loved them both, but #1 is my favorite. For many reasons: Marlon Brando, Michael's transformation from a young soldier returning from the war to powerful head of the family, the horse scene, the scene at the end when the door closes as they kiss Michael's ring, and of course, the music.
