Hey thanks, I'll take look at those.
Yeah, you gotten ol' Sierra Trading post. I've gotten a lot from them in the past. Haha.. and if the sleeves are short, I can just push them up, and make people happy by saying there's nothing up my sleeves!

Is there some kind of loophole that would allow this kind of ruse? |

^ That is precisely the scandal I was referring to with Dolce and Gabbanna. I wasn't aware of similar with Diesel, but I imagine it is possible. In terms of styling and cut, Diesel tends to leave me cold, but I must say they are very good quality regardless of the country of origin.
If any of you need denim, I would humbly direct you to my friend Mauro of Farinelli's in the DC area. He will actually be doing a 50% sale on this upcoming "Black Friday," so a great time to snap up some high quality threads for cheap. I would particularly recommend the Jean Shop brand denim. Very thick and warm this time of year. Farinelli's; (703) 647-9856 or http://farinellis.blogspot.com/ Full disclosure: I have worked for Mauro before and am very much looking forward to performing at his upcoming holiday party. Those in the greater DC region should come check it out!

Nate, when I go buy my kilt, should I get one that's long enough to stop my tallywhacker from hanging in plain sight, or should I get one that's a bit high and stylish, and just let my tallywhacker "swing free" and in plain sight?
Seriously. |

You should try to avoid 'flashing.' Especially if you're doing children’s parties as I hear the parents don't like it! Better make that skin flute disappear back up your kilt.

Natanel,
Thanks for directing me to Ben Sherman. They have a jacket I like, but I thought I'd ask you what you think. I'm thinking of wearing it mostly in nice-ish restaurant gigs, and the more informal stage/parlor shows. http://www.benshermanusa.com/nshop/produ......r[]=25Y# This one is Velour, not really velvet. How does it compare? Also, stoneunhinged, I would recommend getting the long/XL kilt, you don't want that "modern" look for performances. =P

You can find Ben Sherman at Filene's Basement and Loehmann's and the like so you may want to try a little bargain hunting first. I like Ben Sherman jackets because they frequently have functional cuffs and pick-stitched lapels (machine-done), subtle hallmarks of the true aesthete.

^Yes, the cuffs were definitely a plus for me.
Now that I found it, I intend to bargain hunt like crazy until I find it cheaper! Or, I might just bite the bullet and save a while. Thanks Natanel, you're quite the resource.

So, it is more fashionable to have my stomached drapped over my jeans in a manner popular amongst the scarlet necked ones or pull bigger jeans over said tummy and look like I have no crotch? I want to be hip.

The only names that come to mind right now are (the decidedly pricey) Borelli and Kiton, but I imagine Brooks Brothers must have something. Trouser-cut denim is usually a lighter weight denim and cut with a higher rise and a fuller topblock for a more traditonal trouser-like fit.

MagicSanta,
Have you ever seen the English show 'Are You Being Served' set in the menswear department of a store? Anyone who has will no doubt get extra entertainment from this thread. Destiny |

Natanel, you surely found your style and your are looking got in it.
This has been a very enjoyable read. I laughed a lot. So thanks for the thread. Taking a look at the pictures of people in the forum in general it seems to me, that magic and style do not mix well. G.M. |

I believe Natanel is doing a noble thing in trying to correct this inadequacy!
The funniest bit, the kilt question. No doubt. Magicians need to get off the black thing, and expand into areas little known to the common people. Fashion should be worked on almost as much as the newest sleight or effect. English humour isn't for everyone I suppose, but it is oh so funny when you get it. "Are you being served" is also a very easy to get comedy, and the humour is very practical.

Thank you for all your advice so far - you are making a real difference to magics sartorial aesthetic. Can I ask what is a suitable time to spend in the closet before coming out to perform? Destiny |

I believe that for many the act of performing is akin to coming out of the closet. I now wonder...does it matter what shoes I wear if I can't see my feet? I know they are there for I have not fallin over.
