If he's just going to criticize Mr.Ackermann's work he may as well keep it for himself, his latest reviews had been both arrogant and insulting,

I, for one, hope he dies for insulting my favourite magician and/or magical product.

Well I don't think The Smiling Mule ever openly insulted anyone on his blog. He sure has an outspokenness which obviously doesn't please to everyone but anyway nobody can't contest his analytical mind and true devotion to the Erdnase work.

His skill is unquestionable. This in itself gives authority to publish a thorough critique of any Erdnase projects.

I think the fact that the Smiling Mule isn't prepared to give Ackerman an instant, and total pass on his DVD's just because he's Alan Ackerman should be commended.
It does indicate that he's remaining true to his comments made to date. It confirms that he doesn't play favorites. Personally, I find the Ackerman DVD's to be everything I was looking for in a video presentation of the book. An unbelievable accomplishment really, and a set of DVD's that haven't been out of my player since they arrived. Ackerman's set will definitely make Erdnase accessible to many who would otherwise stumble over some of the written text in the book. It will also provide a video alternative to those who've worked with only the written text over the years. Not everybody is lucky enough to have a dedicated Erdnase mentor, or somebody living close by who can accurately demonstrate what the moves should look like. Many Erdnaseophiles are geographically on their own, and for them Alan Ackerman delivers everything he promises to deliver. I'm not sure that Ackerman's presentation could be called an overly "passionate" visit with all the moves in EATCT in the same way it would be if the Smiling Mule had made the DVD set himself, but Ackerman does explain in detail whenever he strays from Erdnase's specific handling in the book. In the end, I think it's highly unlikely that the Smiling Mule would approve of any video production presented by anybody as a substitute for the book. Based on his obvious love of Erdnase's material, it's unlikely anybody but the Mule himself could meet his own strict standards. I do think it unlikely that Ackerman's efforts in bringing Erdnase to the big screen will ever be surpassed in video format. I find the Smiling Mule to be at times confrontational, but never without explaining why, and when specific facts are checked against the book itself, he's (at least when fact checking on his comments on the James set) not found to be incorrect. |

If it's not Manix, then he and the Mule must be twins separated at birth, or guys who grew up together with the exact same English teachers.
Am I suffering from false memory syndrome, or did Manix as much as say it was his blog? |

I don't know. I just took it for granted that Manix was the Smiling Mule AKA The Phantom AKA whatever. I was just joking around. I'm sure they are one and the same, I don't think it's any secret.

The Smiling Mule (or Phantom if you prefer) is the keeper of The Phantom Notebooks.
Manix is a poster here on the Café, who's thoughts frequently overlap those of the Smiling Mule. I've never heard Jeff's name mentioned in association with any of the above though. |

I was aware of all the Air Force stuff and that manix was a poster here, I just thought I had read something on the phantom notebooks and Wessmiller.
I guess it's the fact that their sites look kind of the same, and Wessmiller has a link to the phantom.
