For me I would have to say the Crazy Mans Handcuffs... There is no better reaction then when the spectator is holding one of the rubberbands and I have the other and they melt right throught each other right in front of their eyes and in their hands...

Magnetic Street Shells is a very cool trick.
It fools the heck of all the viewers every time The magnetic shells has a very unfair advantage, its impossible to track the pea. Effects with an invisible elastic loop is also extremely cool. Jut slide the loop around your arm and your are set for very cool things... http://www.kjellstrom.info |

In one gathering I had a chance to show Healed and Sealed, and people talked about it weeks after. The other, a favorite, is the Invisible Deck - am now using this one with SiStebins card setup. Great audience reaction, and the best part is when they ask, "How dya do that?"

The Xpert is the Coolest trick. I like it because it's so clever and it's so strong. It kills laymen and magicians all the time!

This might be hard to believe, but professor's nightmare. I do it in the street and tableside and I always get a standing ovation. The reaction I get from this old standby still amazes me.

Heal and seal is such a cool trick. Everyone seen it will yell out "WTF!" when the cap is open with the "pssss" sound! Very great party magic when lots of soda and beer cans lying around.

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned that just about any trick is a draw dropper if it fits your style and you can present it well (the 10% trick and 90% showmanship principle). The only other thing you need to do is choose the right trick(s) for your audience. Not too many adults like Run Rabbit Run.

Although I believe the reactions have little to do with the effects themselves, here are my choices:
Most consistent all around entertainment value - cig in jacket (6 mins loaded with gags, based on Terry Seabrook's routine) Most strong reactions to effect - Barry Richardson's "One in a million" phone number prediction. This is mainly due to 2 things, firstly the effect itself is so devious, perfectly structured and clean looking. Secondly, the tips in presentation & showmanship given with this effect in "Theatre of the Mind". The final display sequence really draws and sustains the applause and is a true example of getting the most impact out of a special moment. Therein lies a true lesson in artistic performance. Cheers, Al

I agree that Scotch and Soda has blown people away! Also someone mentioned Touch, that has really gotten some good reactions! But the one I absolutely love performing is John Kennidy's Mystery box. That one has always left em with thier mouths hanging open!
