My Apologies my friends here at the Café. I did not intend to upset anyone with this joke, and never thought it to be sexist. That is why the Café is a good place we can share this stuff before we use it in front of a crowd. Lyndel did contact me and provided me with 3 alternatives to this joke that would cut out all the "Sexist" parts contained in the joke.
Margarette I work with children on a regular basis, and do serveral repeat shows a year, and have never offended any of my clients or thier guest. It was not my intentions to offend anyone, and if I would have thought this to be sexist I wouldn't use it in any show let alone post it here. I hope this clears this up! No Hard Feelings Chaz |

Actually, Chaz, you might want to put the whole line on hold for a little while so it'll be topical.
Gas prices are actually coming down (albeit probably only temporary). As of this afternoon, it's only $2.43 per gallon at the station near my house! Woo-Hoo! Lyndel |

Thank You for the 3 alternative jokes. Café member sorry if the joke sounded sexist. I never thought it to be, and only was trying to strike conversation and share an experience from my show! No point to try and get people on your side with the joke sounding "sexist" because I am announcing that YES it does sound sexist, and I wasn't aware of this. PLUS apologizing to everyone! Please though share take this joke and let me know where you would go with it....the gasoline part that is. Thanks Chaz |

Boy, I'm glad we have this guy apologizing about making a quip...
I'm sure all you non sexists and women would never dare utter any joke at the expense of men, or anyone who might be offended in the least. Your joke might be sexist, to a sensitive person (And I know plenty of people in construction who are ridiculously sensitive). But if you won't tell a joke because you might possibly hurt someones feelings you had better start working on a humorless act. And the reply about some women liking to get abused too... that's the ridiculous crap that people without an argument use to be right. It's inane blather, and does not mean anything. I would have thought someone who thought a little jibe was insensitive would know better than to use that trash as an argument. Don't be afraid and apologetic of controversy, most of the time the controversy is synthetic anyway. As it is in this case.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Some of you....man oh man....the jokes are not good.
Here you go, I will save the day for you....(I'm glad I didn't find the post saying it was sexist, hard to get puke off of a keyboard) "I have to apologize, my assistant couldn't make it cuz of the price of gas, she refused to ride on the handle bars" see that? It is set up nicely, has a punch that is both clear yet requires a bit of something from the listener. Now go and sicken me no further, I shan't return. |

I think it depends on how one delivers the joke and the personality of the performer.

"I left her at home to do the dishes......... That's good... When I get home... she can tell me about Oprah! "
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the topper, you are making fun of your situation - as well as hers.... and..... everyone will be happy. You emasculated yourself as a direct cause of your chavanistic attitude. The situation is ironical and therefore the joke is on you,,, therefore...funny. NOW..... wrap it up and put a bow on it................... - - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "But it's OK - As long as I don't get too far behind reading Oprah's current 1000 page book....... "How to save time and money", everything will work out fine....... Now where was I?"

I think the original line has a funny feel to it, although probably wouldn't use it myself because although the sexism stuff is stupid, I'd also prefer to avoid it
(I also wonder what those people would think of a man I used to work with who insisted that women aren't allowed to wash dishes or mop floors because they're too incompetent - it's like some new kind of backwards sexism...) I think the one about riding on the handle bars is even slightly funnier, but I'm sure you could still find some people who'd get offended over it. |
