Hi everybody,
Can anybody tell me how to treat correctly new bought silks to get the stiffness out, but without ruining the silk itself? I've heard not to iron them. Thanks for your help. Oliver. |

Hello Oliver,
Is your silk a modern one from China (less than 20 years old)? If not, what is the country of origin and approximate age? Printed or solid color? Bob Sanders |

Bob,
The silk is a modern one, the kind you get in any magic shop when you're asking for a 9 x 9 inch silk. Thanks for your help. Oliver. |

Oliver,
Assuming that what you have is 100% real China silk in a solid color, life is going to be easy. To deal with your first two questions. #1. Modern silk should not be stiff! Let's hope that it was just very well pressed. Washing the silk in warm water and Woolite will allow it to "relax" some and seem softer. It is OK to squeeze the wet ball of silk but don't twist it. Rinse it very well. One that is 9 inches square will dry quickly if you will just stick it while wet on the face of a mirror to air dry. It will peel off by itself and fall. So make sure that the area where it falls is clear of thing that could snag your silk. #2. YES! YES! YES! It is OK to iron real silk. Your iron will have a heat setting for silk. I recommend that you only iron dry silks. Note: If the silk is for use in the TT you may be satisfied with the way it looks right off the mirror. When pushing a silk into your fist, use the soft pad of the finger rather than the nail. Silk is very hard to tear but easy to puncture the weave. Enjoy your silk magic! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Bob,
Thank you very much for all those basic information. From now on I'll use them and I think it will make them last longer. Oliver. |

Bob,
Usually at the beginning of a new relationship I try to take it slow. First maybe meet for a cup of coffee, then perhaps dinner. After that.... Jay http://www.jaythemagician.com
